Thanks for reply, I am researching a Frances "Fannie" Echols. She was born in Cherokee County Alabama in November of 1861 as a slave child. I am told she was owned by a families with last name of Hamilton and Echols (or Eccles, Eakles, etc.). I believe after emancipation her family took name of Echols. Her mother was Caroline born about 1834 and father was named James. According to an 1880 census of Floyd Cty. Georgia, Caroline (the mother) was widowed. So I assume James passed away around 1871 or 1872. Thanks for any help at all. How was the widowed mother, Caroline, shown in the 1880 Floyd County, GA, census? I can't even find a Caroline Echols enumerated there. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Merch" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, March 25, 2004 5:38 PM Subject: Re: [AL-CEN] J.W.
