Could I get an Alabama Census look-up for a Obed Errot Florence, born December 1901. He may have lived in Blount or Jefferson County, Alabama. I am not sure. I am trying to find the names of his parents and siblings. Kindest Regards, Liz Brown Burks mandlburks@corrcomm.net
Liz, Check for marriage records for Dillard Florence in Alabama, because it's obvious that he had several, and I am not able from census records to determine which one was the mother of your Errot. In 1870, Dillard was shown in the household of his apparent parents, Andrew and Nancy Florance in Paulding County, Georgia, at age 5. You might want to request a single request for a lookup for that family from the Georgia lookup list. By the time of the 1900 census, Dillard was living in Jefferson County, Alabama, and his family was shown below. The lookup limit is one, but I am sending the one for 1900 and 1920 only because I needed them to clarify the names of those children shown in 1910. 1900 Jefferson County, Alabama - Precinct 23 - June 4, 1900 - ED 89/page 97 25 - Florence, Dillard T., head; Feb 1865, age 35; married/2 years; GA GA GA; farmer; owns free farm #25 Mildret (Mildred?), wife; Aug 1882, age 17; married/2 years; 1 child/1 living; GA GA GA Nancy B., dau; Jun 1885, age 14; AL GA AL; attended school/4 months Andrew H., son; Aug 1887, age 12; AL GA GA; farm labor; attended school/4 months Georg? C., son; Mar 1890, age 10; AL GA GA; farm labor; attended school/4 months Hiram M., son; Oct 1892, age 7; AL GA GA Erma, dau; Aug 1899, age 10 months; AL GA GA Markham, Wily, boarder; white male; May 1873, age 22; single; AL AL AL; farm labor By the time of the 1910 census, Errot appears in Dillard's household, but his mother, (Mildred or another wife?) appears to have died. Very few of these names and ages seem to fit the 1900 census, but I am certain that it's the same family: 1910 Blount County, Alabama - Precinct 35, Harmony - May 12, 1910 - ED 29/Sheet 11A/page 228 209 - Florrence, Dillard T., head; M W 45 Wd; AL AL AL; farmer/farm; owns free farm #175 Carl, son; M W 20 Md/0 years; AL AL AL (all); farm labor/home farm Hood?, son; M W 19 S; AL AL AL; farm labor/home farm Nancy, dau; F W 17 S; born AL; farm labor/home farm; attends school Armon, son; M W 11 S; born AL; farm labor/home farm; attends school Aron? Oron? (Errot?) M W 9 S; born AL; attends school Olin, son; M W 6 S; born AL Bourron, son; M W 3 S;born AL Charles, son; M W 2 S; born AL Phillips, dau-in-law; F W 20 Md/0 years; AL AL AL (arrow drawn indicates that she was Carl's wife) The 1920 census finally gives the right name for Errot, and is where I first located him in the household of his father: 1920 Blount County, Alabama - Harmony - February 18, 1920 - ED 13/Sheet 13B 247 - Florence, D. T., head; owns/mortgaged; M W 54 Md; GA GA GA; farmer/general farm M. A., (Martha per the 1930 census); F W 47 Md; AL GA GA ERROT, son; M W 18 S; AL GA GA; attends school; farm hand/home farm Ohlen (Olen), son; M W 15 S; AL GA GA; attends school; farm hand/home farm Barron, son; M W 13 S; AL GA GA; attends school Lillian, dau; F W 6 S; AL AL AL Burlie, dau; F W 5 S; AL AL AL J. B., son; M W 4 S; AL AL AL I would guess that the above Lillian, Burlie, and JB belong to Martha, and that Errot, Olen, and Barron belong either to Mildred or another wife whose name is unknown. If I were you, I would order a copy of Errot's death certificate in order to find the name of his mother. Good luck!
