    3. Not indexed in 1870 Butler County, Melissa. What else do you know that might help someone find this family? Approximate age, race, place of birth? When was the son, John, born? Where do you find them enumerated in earlier census years? Where do you find them living in the 1880 census? There are several James Kirkseys of various spellings indexed in 1870 Alabama. All are shown as "colored" except for one, who was 13 years old in 1870. Anything you can add might help. 3. Linda, in 1880, Butler Co., AL., this is the listing: James Kirksey, 58, farmer, born in SC; Susan, 49, wife, born in AL, John, 12, son, born in AL. The family is white. There is a J. J. Kirksey listed in the 1860 Federal Census and I believe that's James. I was just trying to see if the family was listed in 1860 or 1870. If you find nothing there, would you mind checking to see if you find a Susan Kirksey in 1900? I believe James is deceased by then. Thank you very much. 3. Melissa, There's no white Susan Kirksey indexed anywhere in 1900 Alabama, and no white Kirksey (nor similar spelling) indexed in Dallas County at all. Sorry. I will try 1870 again with the additional information. ----- Original Message ----- From: Melissa Parker To: AL-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, July 17, 2005 4:05 PM Subject: Re: [AL-CEN] Butler/1870/Kirksey Linda, in 1880, Butler Co., AL., this is the listing: James Kirksey, 58, farmer, born in SC; Susan, 49, wife, born in AL, John, 12, son, born in AL.
