    3. Well, Daniel, Martha and family are in Conecuh Co., Alabama in 1880. I'll see if I can look further into the one you found, though. 2. Melissa, There is no clear cut winner. This one is the only one I can find that seems possible. 1850 Hamilton Co, FL, dist 3, page 240 Daniel H or K Shaw 52 SC farmer Elizabeth 48 SC Daniel 20 GA laborer Dempsey 18 GA Greenbery 14 GA Ginney 10 GA Elbert L. 8 GA Crawford T. 6 GA Wily A. 4 FL The 1900 shows Daniel as born GA and parents both born SC so that fits. In 1860 Daniel is shown as born in FL which would indicate some Florida connection. His age sort of bounces around but in 1860 he is shown as 31 so age 20 in 1850 would be pretty close. 3. As the transcriber, her is what I have transcribed. City of Montgomery Wards 1, 2 & 3. That is only a small part of the county. Still need someone who can transcribe the unincorporated portion of the county which is divided into 2 districts. Unfortunately my neurosurgeion is not letting me do that type of work for the foreseeable fiuture. 3. Yes, this is good. Thank you so much. I do not have any idea on the sisters who they married. My grandfather, their brother died when he was only 22 yr. 8 mo. in 1919 , so I did not know anything till just recently. Clara is the only one I know that must have married and moved to Detroit, Michigan, she lived there in the summer of 1939. The only reason I know that is that my dad, who died when I was 4, went to stay with her that summer, before he and my mom married. I just found out her name on 7/26, along with the others. Linard's name might be listed as Glenn. I know my grandfather had a brother name Glenn and a brother Ray, I have photos of both as boys. Ray is Bettus or Beaves Ray, could be Reaves Ray. I didn't see Glenn in the census and Linard was the last one born and the photo I have of him was as a baby or up to 2 yrs old. He had a dressing gown on. I don't know how long they wore those. Any way he was 7 when my grandfather died. Thanks again!!!!! 2. The official enumeration day of the 1830 census was 1 June 1830. All questions asked were supposed to refer to that date. The count was due within six months, but the due date was extended by law to allow completion within twelve months. There are no dates shown on the census images for Wilcox county. If you look at the microfilm (which I don't have access to), there is usually a cover page with the name of the censustaker and the submission date. This cover page is not included in online census images. Docjones35 wrote: > Can anyone tell me between what dates the 1830 Wilcox Census was taken?? 3. Records back to those days are a bit scarce. But we strongly believe that some sort of disaster befell the Norris Family around 1830. We know that James Reece Norris was b ca 1929 and he did survive. Malinda, the wife, died and we think that more than one child died at the same time....However we cannot find anything written about such an event. The Orphans Court record shows three survivor children of Malinda and they were Elizabeth J Norris, Oliver F. Norris and James B (shud be R) Norris and all of them had to be born between 1821 and 1830. This morning is when I first started looking for Oliver and things are not looking up at this point....Oh well that is what makes Genealogy interesting....doc ----- Original Message ----- From: <wmcconne@bellsouth.net> To: <AL-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 09, 2005 1:06 PM Subject: Re: Re: [AL-CEN] 1850 Al Census--Oliver F. 1. Re: Re: [AL-CEN] 1850 Al Census--Oliver F. Norris
    2. Doc, In looking at the 1830 and 1840, there appear to be three sons who are not accounted for in the 1850 census for William H. Also it appears that the son who was born about 1825 or earlier is not in the 1840 census record for William H. But I don't see a candidate for Oliver(or Franklin) in 1840 either. > From: "Docjones35" <docjones35@bellsouth.net> > Date: 2005/08/09 Tue AM 10:32:07 CDT > To: AL-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: Re: [AL-CEN] 1850 Al Census--Oliver F. 3. William H. Norris was my 2nd great grandfather, so I am somewhat familiar with his family....The S. F. Norris (male) age 11 is, I believe, Francis Johnson Norris who was born in April 1839...R.C. listed above him is my g grandfather and his name was Robert Cicero Norris and H. C. was Henry Clay Norris. If the S. F. Norris is not Francis Johnson Norris then he would be Samuel Leonidas Norris and they were close to the same age and one of them was left off of the listing... So, something became of Oliver F. Norris and I have no clue, at this point, what that was... 1. Re: Re: [AL-CEN] 1850 Al Census--Oliver F. Norris
    2. This may be the family. As you can see between the two census records, there is some confusion about the name and sex of one child and possibly the ages of others. He could have also been off on the initials. 1850 Dallas Co, AL, Cahawba, page 271 or 272 William H. Norris 50 GA lawyer Mary 49 SC Angeline 17 AL M. H. (female) 15 AL R. C. (male) 13 AL S. F. (male) 11 AL H. C. (male) 9 AL Isabella 9 AL Lucinda (female) 7 AL B. H. (male) 5 AL M. A. (female) 3 AL E. L. (female) 1 AL Nancy 15 AL 1860 Monroe Co, AL, Burnt Corn P.O., page 876/877 William Norris 60 GA farmer(value of real estate=$1000, value of pesonal assets=$38000*) Mary 49 SC Francis (male) 21 AL overseer Nancy 18 AL farm laborer Isabella 18 AL Leonard (Leonardy) (male)16 AL farm laborer Benjamin 14 AL Martha 13 AL Emma 11 AL * these values are relatively very large for 1860. If Oliver was about 25 in 1850, he could be on his own or deceased. There is the possibility that Francis is the person you are hunting although he's listed as S. F. in 1850. I don't see any other good possibility for Oliver F. in 1850/1860/1870 or 1880. > > From: "Docjones35" <docjones35@bellsouth.net> > Date: 2005/08/09 Tue AM 08:47:13 CDT > To: AL-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [AL-CEN] 1850 Al Census--Oliver F. 3. Thanks for the quick reply...my problem is I just learned of his existence this morning. I think (big word) that he was born in Wilcox County to William H. Norris and his first wife Malinda between 1822 and 1829, around the time that Malinda died. His name shows up in an "Orphans Court Minutes Book" as a descendant of Malinda Norris and this is the first time I have ever heard of him....And the name Oliver is not common among my Norris bunch, but it may be in the line of Black's that Malinda comes from...I will have to check that out. From the results of the 1830 Wilcox Census it looks like Malinda was alive at that time, but she died prior to 1832, because that is when William H. Norris married her cousin, Mary Black in Wilcox Co.....exact death date of Malinda not known to me.... I hate to muddy up the water but this is the best I can offer at this time...thanks again.. docjones ----- Original Message ----- From: <wmcconne@bellsouth.net> To: <AL-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 09, 2005 9:12 AM Subject: Re: [AL-CEN] 1850 Al Census--Oliver F.
