    1. Re: [AL-CEN] 1870 / Dallas County / GRANT or GRANTT / pg 701 & 631 HELP, plea...
    2. I've got images online also. It is incredibly difficult and slow work. When I find the page, and examine it, I enlarge and print (full image). I also contacted Ancestry and got a long explanation. Some enumerators had clearer handwriting. For me, the satisfaction of getting a page of actual census on my ellusive family is worth hours of tedious work.. I'll take a look at these pages on mine and see if I can get something.

    3. Fredreica, The numbers listed on pages in the place that says "Page No." refers to the page number of that particular district. The page number listed on the index refers to the page number for the county, or maybe even the state, I'm not sure. But the page number you need to look for is a stamped number, usually on the upper right hand corner of every other page. Confusing, I know. Check out the page just before or after if the one you are looking at doesn't have a stamped page number. There doesn't seem to be any particular sequence that I can find according to district names/numbers. The page number at the bottom of the screen which allows you to choose a page number or either go forward or back doesn't correspond either. I usually pick a number and find out what the stamped number is for that page and then go forward or backward until I find the correct stamped page, which actually is for two pages. 8-) In order to look up Clevin Grant I went through the following steps: 1. Go to Ancestry.com 2. Click on the Search tab at the top 3. Click on Images 4. Click on Alabama 5. Click on Dallas 6. Click on Selma, Ward 4 ( that is info from your index) 7 . You will notice there is no stamped number on the upper right of the page, so go to the next page. 8. You will see that the page number stamped there is 681 and the number at the bottom of your screen says number 2. 9. Since you are looking for 701, and you know that each number covers 2 pages, try going to a page that is approximately twice the number you are looking for (the difference is 20 stamped pages, so change the number in the box where it says go to image _____ to 40. 10. This is where you will need to "fiddle" a bit. Page 40 equates to the stamped page number 699 so try 44. Once you do this one, you shouldn't have any problem finding the other one. Let me know if you need more help. I sure hope you are able to make some sense of this!! Let me know if you need more help.
