    3. I have found a J.B. Stanford on the ancestry.com index. He is said to be living in the Nanafalia beat on page 511. The Nanfalia beat only goes to page 492, that I could find. The entire Marengo County 1870 index seems to be messed up. Has anyone out there figured it out!?! Thanks! Fredreica

    1. [AL-CEN] 1870 Marengo County Index???
    2. Paul & Fredreica Speyer
    3. Does anyone have access to AncestorSpy Alabama 1870 Federal Census: Marengo County (Order No. M593-28)? I have used Ancestry.com index and can't find a relative that I KNOW was there. I love ancestry.com but this index is messed up. It lists my relatives in the Shiloh beat, but they are found in the Hampden Beat at the Shiloh Post Office. I am hoping someone has access to another transcribed version of the index for Marengo County 1870 Census. I have found the Hammet J. Craig and Laura Treadwell families for 1860 and 1870. I am missing the John B. Stanford family who is their neighbor in 1860 and they all moved to Manatee Co., FL for the 1880 census. I KNOW my John Stanford is on that 1870 census for Marengo County. I have family letters and John Stanford was living in Marengo County, near the Craigs and the Tredwells in 1870. How can I find an Index other than ancestry.com? Thanks so very much! Fredreica

    2. Larry Coats
    3. Well, given the evidence that I just received, it seems that my Mary Ann Stewart, b. 1835 AL cannot be identical to the Mary who is shown in the household of John and Matilda Stewart of Madison Co. AL. That being said, would it still be possible for someone to provide me a listing of the remaining Stewart families that appear in Madison Co. AL in the 1850 census? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Larry Coats

    1. [AL-CEN] Lookup req/1850 censu Madison Co. AL
    2. Larry Coats
    3. Hello to all, I'm new to this list, but I have a rather urgent lookup request; I'll cut to the chase and explain: Since 1966, I've been looking for the parents of my Gg grandmother, Mary Ann (Stewart) Coats, who was b. in AL in 1835. She married Thomas J. Coats in 1858 in Lincoln Co. TN. I have reason now to think that her family may have come from Madison Co. AL. Here's my two part request: could someone check for a John Stewart, b.c. 1805 (VA or TN?)with wife, Matilda b. 1808 TN, and see if they had any dau. who would fit for a birthdate in 1835? And if that comes up negative, could SKS just give me any sort of census summary for all the Stewart families in Madison Co. in 1850??? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Larry D. Hamilton Coats

    3. The census reports often took months to complete. In that length of time, sometimes a family moved (which is what happened to one of my great uncles in Georgia) and they were enumerated twice. The only clue I had was the actual census report that gave the "date" of enumeration. One was in the Spring and the other one was in the Fall. Hope this helps somewhat. Jane

    3. Sounds like the census takers hit them twice. Same thing happened to my great uncle in Tarrant Co, TX. They are listed in the 1880 census twice...pretty confusing!!!
