    3. Linda, Thank you very much for trying. This was the husband of my gg-Aunt, that is mentioned in my gg-Grandmother's obit as one of the surviving children in a 1921 obit, as being from Snowdoun. Perhaps I will try to make another query later about the 1920 census to see if they show up. Thanks again Linda for trying! 1. Re: [AL-CEN] 1900/Unknown/HILL
    2. Linda Murray
    3. Rhonda, I don't have access to any of the Alabama state census, but checked the 1900 federal. There are almost 150 William Hills indexed in 1900 Alabama. I checked those who were indexed as William E., and didn't find this family. The 1920 Marshall County, Kentucky, census shows that Jesse wasn't born until 1905, so William E. and Birdie were probably not married before 1900. If not, William, at age 19 in 1900, was probably still in the household of his parents and wouldn't have been indexed as head of household. If that is the case, finding him without knowing his father's name or in which county, would mean possibly having to search all the Hill families indexed in 1900 Alabama, and that's probably not something you would want to ask someone else to do. When you learn more about the son, Jesse, who was born in Alabama, you will be able to order his death certificates and that will hopefully tell you in which county he was born. With that information, we can narrow the field and make finding the right family possible. Sorry I wasn't able to help. 3. A great big thank you!! to both Linda and Earnie for the census lookups. I have it narrowed down now to Silas Holtzclaw. Earnie said he isn't on the 1840 census. Sounds like a transcription error to me. He has to be. He has kids born 1838 through 1849 in Alabama. So far I have found the name erroniously transcribed as Holtsdow and Stoltsdow. I anyone can tell me where to find an 1840 Chambers, AL census image on-line, would appreciate it. So far I can't find one. Linda and Earnie...I really appreciate all your help. 1. Re: [AL-CEN] 1860 MORGAN COUNTY - SMITH
    2. Linda Murray
    3. Ancestry has Alabama every-name indexed for the year 1860, Lucille. They show 59 Robert Smiths in the state, none in Morgan County. They also show no Doug or Douglas Smith indexed anywhere in the state in 1860. I found one Samuel Smith enumerated as age 5 in 1860 Dekalb with his father, John Smith, apparently widowed. Another Samuel Smith at age 5 was enumerated with his parents John P. and Elizabeth, in 1860 Tallapoosa County. There were many S. A. Smiths indexed in 1860 Alabama, but none about age 5. Where do you find Sam Allen in 1870 and 1880? Where does he give as the birthplace of his parents? Knowing that might help identify the correct Sam in earlier census.
