    1. [AL-CEN] Re: Helenick/HELMICK 1900 Lookup
    2. Dear Linda, THANK YOU so much. Yes, this appears to be the Helenick/HELMICK family I am looking for. The dates are right for the marriage and the ages of the parents. I am trying to find out also when they left TN for AL. From the ages of the living children, it would seem to be between 1896 and 1906. Are they possibly on the 1900 Alabama Census for AL (perhaps again in Morgan Co AL?) Thanks for your help. 3. I don't normally do this as a volunteer, but I got caught up in trying to find them in the 1870 census yesterday - so much so that I only slept three hours last night and then woke up thinking I had missed something and started looking for them again. ACK! At any rate, I have these and certainly can't use them, so you and whomever comes along later looking in the list's archives are welcomed to them. 1. [AL-CEN] Re: [AR-CENSUS-LOOKUP] AR look up for 1870 Clowers
    2. Linda Murray
    3. Mildred, Harriet Clowers was still in Marion County, Alabama in 1870, but Henry and Tipton Clowers appear to be nephews instead of sons. Harriet and Doctor Clowers' children per the 1850-1860-70 census were Jacob W., born ca 1840 James E. (probably Ephriam), born ca 1842 Malinda, born ca 1843 Reese, born ca 1844 Amanda, born ca 1845 Thomas Jefferson, born ca 1846 Narcissa, born ca 1847 Eliza A., born ca 1850 Sidney, born ca 1854 She was apparently widowed prior to 1860 and appears in the Alabama Land records, Huntsville, September 1, 1860, as Harriet A. Clowers, so the "A" may be a clue to her maiden name. I found them indexed in 1850 Talladega County as "Doctor Clovers". Is your interest in Harriet, or in one of the other Clowers living near her in 1880 Arkansas? John, Henry, and Tipton Clowers belong to Hellary (or Henry) and Ferriba Hinton Clowers who married in Meriwether County, Georgia, in 1838 and were enumerated in 1840 Tallapoosa County, 1850 Talladega County and 1860 Marion County, Alabama. I've not been able to locate any of this family in the 1870 census, but two of their children, Henry and John, married in Yell County, Arkansas, in 1872 and 1877. Another Arkansas marriage lists an Adaline Clowers who married in 1872 in Conway County Hellary and Ferriba's children were: James M., born ca 1840 Martha A., born ca 1842 John, born ca 1844 Henry, born ca 1846 Tipton, born ca 1848 Mary Ann, born ca 1850 Adaline, born ca 1852 Let me know which family is yours, and I will see what census years I have to send. BTW, I believe that both Doctor and Hellary are sons of Jacob Clowers, born ca 1776 or so. 1. Re: [AL-CEN] 1850/Jackson/PETERS
    2. Linda Murray
    3. Shirley, Per the GNIS, present-day Geneva is in Geneva County, but it may have been in another county early on. Does this have anything to do with John Peters? The only John Peters indexed in the 1880 census who was born prior to 1800 was in Jackson County, so I followed that one back through the census years to 1850 to be sure I was giving you the right one. There were several indexed in 1850 Alabama, but of course, none in Geneva County (not formed until 1868), none in Marengo. The guidelines for the lookup requests state one year at a time, but because I had to do the search anyhow, am sending what I found, moving forward from 1850. No one except the head of household was named in any census year prior to 1850. His wife's name was Obedience, and yes, she'd most likely have been called "Biddie". 1850 Jackson County, Alabama - District 21 - November 23, 1850 - page 127 335 - John Peters, age 50?; farmer; $1550; born TN Obedience, age 37; born AL Uriah, age 16; labourer; born AL Daniel L., age 15; labourer; born AL John, age 12; born AL James M., age 11; born AL Lucinda, age 9; born AL 1860 Jackson County, Alabama - District 3 - PO Paint Rock - June 8, 1860 - page 593 132 - John Peters, age 59; farmer; $3300/1000; born TN Obedience, age 42; born AL James M., age 21; farmer; born AL William, age 16; farmer; born AL Lucinda, age 18; born AL 1870 Jackson County, Alabama - Subdivision 4 - PO Woodville - June 21, 1870 - page 185 45 - Peters, John, age 73; farmer; $2500/300; born TN Obedience, age 54; keeping house; born AL Uriah, age 35; farm labor; born AL William L., age 9; born AL Tipton, Bridges J., age 28; farm labor; born AL Lucinda, age 25; at home; born AL You can find John Peters as a widower in the 1880 Jackson County census, (enumerated with his son, John, and family), at the LDS website: http://www.familysearch.org Good luck! 3. Robert, Once again - the 1880 census is online, fully searchable, and free to everyone at the LDS website. It is also one of only three census years which is every-name indexed, so if you would just try to make the search yourself, you will find both George Reeves and Mary and William Horton if they were enumerated. It has the same people indexed as what the volunteers have on the CDs and on the online images. It might be a good idea to bookmark the URL this time: http://www.familysearch.org ----- Original Message ----- From: "Midnight Rider" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, January 30, 2004 11:23 PM Subject: [AL-CEN] Mary Horton 1880 Coosa county,AL(Soccopatoy) > hello list.I'm looking for a Mary Horton born about 1865 in or near Soccopatoy. She is probably living with her parents.I believe her father is a William Horton who also had a son named Robert.mary later marries a George Reeves.Could somebody please check to see if a George Reeves is living near by or in Jackson county. > Respectfully, > Robert > > > ==== AL-CENSUS-LOOKUP Mailing List ==== > To transcribe a census please volunteer at > http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/census/map.htm Or contact Earnie Breeding at [email protected] for the state census transcriptions for AL & TX > > ============================== > Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration > Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial. 3. Sue, I only found one indexed in the entire state - wrong age, wrong county - but he did have a wife named Mary. Do you know any of the names of their children?
