    3. Congratulations! I'm so very glad that you had the perseverance to bite the bullet and do the page-by-page search that is many times necessary in order to find your unindexed/misindexed folks. We could have checked the index for days and never found them looking for Dotson and Dean, and yours is just one example of the multitude of errors that were made in census records - not only by the census taker, but by the informant(s) and (due to poor penmanship) the indexer, as well. Glad you were able to find them, and you should definitely enjoy the thrill of making such an awesome discovery as well as the satisfaction of having done it on your own. Way to go! 1. [AL-CEN] Cleary/Stewart
    2. Dee
    3. Hello All: Looking for a census lookup for the following: These are the facts that we have documented. We are looking for Unknown Cleary (unknown of exact spelling). Lived in Bibb or Perry Counties, Alabama in 1880 or 1890. He had a child by the name of Walter, b. 1866, Centreville, Bibb Co., Alabama. Wife unknown. He also possibly lived with after his wife died, Andrew Jefferson Stewart, m. Eliza Amanda Burns. Cleary could have been enumerated with Andrew Jefferson Stewart in his household as a farm worker. Mr. Stewart is on the 1880 census for Scottsville, Bibb Co., Alabama. I have a list of children for the Stewarts if needed. Thanks for any help.

    1. Re: [AL-CEN] 1860/Unknown County?/COLEMAN
    2. Linda Murray
    3. Angie, Working under the assumption that your Colemans were not slaves - I checked for families indexed in the state of Alabama who were enumerated as free blacks, and there were no Coleman or Coalmans listed. One Polly Coleman indexed in 1860 Mobile County, age 80, mulatto, born in SC, living with Susan Winter, age 57, mulatto, also born SC. There's one C. Coleman in 1860 Alabama, enumerated as white, age 23, with apparent wife, N. Coleman, age 21 and daughter AC, aged 7 months. No birthplace was written, which indicates that this C. Coleman was born in Alabama. There's only one Carter Coleman indexed in the US. He was white, age 22, born in TN, enumerated in 1860 Arkansas. Sorry I wasn't able to help. 3. Angie, No Carter Coleman indexed in 1860 Alabama. Should he be indexed as head of household? I will be happy to try again if you can give me more to go on without my also having to go to the 1870 and 1880 census to find it there. It would help if you could tell me Carter's race, approximate year of birth, in which state he was born, and in which county he resided in 1870 and 80. 1. [AL-CEN] Barbour County Newspapers
    2. Hey! I was wondering if anyone knew how far back the barbour county newspapers are saved. My great grandfather was murdered there in the early twenties and I'm trying to find out more about it. My grandfather, who was just a baby when it happened, knows very little. His mother would never speak of his father at all. Researching that branch has been hard because of it, but I thought perhaps one of the newspapers would have an obituary. Thanks and God Bless!
