Bill, There is no federal census for the years 1812-1815. The first census after William's birth would be 1820, but no years give any family members' names until 1850. You might be able to find a Ben/Benjamin Bass listed in the 1820 census who had a male enumerated in his household in the age bracket of zero to ten. There are no names, remember - just a number in that age bracket, so there'd be no way to know if a male who was enumerated as between zero and ten years of age in the household of Benjamin Bass was named William, or John or James. But getting back to the 1820 census, which WOULD help you determine whether or not Benjamin Bass was living in either Kentucky or Alabama in 1820 - there are none indexed in either state. You can't rule out that he wasn't living in Alabama in 1820, though, because more than half the Alabama counties census sheets have been lost or destroyed. Therefore, he may have been living in Alabama in 1820 and still not show up in what is left of the 1820 Alabama census. Sorry I can't be of more help. Linda, Thank you so much. I love it gives the middle initials and the possible year of marriage. Plus I know at least two of the daughters had already married so it gives me a time frame. The best though is the Chester Hammack living in the home as a hired hand. It confirms to me that the wife Sarahs maiden name was Hammack which I had heard. Chester was maybe a nephew or cousin of some sort. Thanks so much. Maybe still in Georgia, Pat. Mary and her previous husband (?) were apparently in Alabama in 1865 when Robert's stepson was born, but he and Mary probably didn't marry until, what? 1860? And those younger children should be grandchildren if they belong to Mary, I would think, so maybe neither of them lived in Alabama. 1860 Alabama has indexed: Robert Campbell in Lauderdale County, age 35, born Scotland Robert Campbell in Bibb County, age 17, born Alabama Robert Campbell in Cherokee County, age 50, born South Carolina Robert Cambel in Dekalb County, age 37, born North Carolina Linda in Georgia ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pat" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, February 21, 2004 2:11 PM Subject: [AL-CEN] 1860 / ???? / CAMPBELL > Looking for the family of R. <ROBERT> CAMPBELL (1813 GA) / MARY ???
