    1. [AKINS-L] AKIN/BOYD
    2. I am a newbie to this list and am seeking your assistance. My greatgreatgrandmother was Catherine AKIN. She married William BOYD. Their daughter, Isabella BOYD b. 14 July1866, was my greatgrandmother. I have a certified copy of Isabella's birth record which shows she was born in Drumbyagh. The record was registered in Newtownstewart Strabane. I called the GRO in Strabane and they have located a copy of William and Catherine's marriage record. I requested a check from Ruesch Internation in pounds sterling and have just received it. I am mailing it to the Strabane office Monday. The person I spoke to would not give me their parents names over the phone because she claimed she was having trouble reading it. Therefore, I won't know who Catherine's father was until I recieve my copies. I will post it to the list when I receive it. It will probably take a couple of weeks. The person I spoke to said that they were married in 1848. I know that they had at least two other children. Since my greatgrandmother wasn't born until 1866, there are many possibilities. I am hoping that someone on this list has knowledge of Catherine AKIN and her family. I would greatly appreciate your assistance. Also, someone mentioned to me that it was thought that AKIN is a variant of ADKIN or ATKIN. Does anyone know if this is true? Given the variant spellings of varous surnames (mainly due to pronunciations or illiteracy) it seems possible. Thank you, Gloria
