    1. [AKINS-L] Samuel Aikin
    2. Akins, Carl
    3. Paul, I've checked my notes from my last trip to Connecticut (which, as I mentioned in my reply to your direct note earlier, is not very close to New York City) and confirmed that Samuel Akins, youngest son, not grandson as I was thinking, of the Henry Akin whom I'm trying to find more about, remained in Connecticut and was definitely NOT a Loyalist. First, a stone in the "Center Cemetery" of Portland, CT, labeled Robert Akins, son of Samuel and Mary, died Oct. 27, 1795, at age 18, indicates Samuel was probably in CT at that time. And, in fact, the very next stone is for "Lieutenant" Samuel Akins, Captain Edward's Company, Revolutionary War, died June 25, 1809, age 70 years. Apparently he was somewhat of a war hero, because I had seen other references to him in Connecticut Revolutionary War material, but was unaware of any connection to my family at the time. I keep missing a direct connection to war heros in my line... I also have a Civil War casualty (hit by a shell at Cold Harbor, VA in 1864, died at Finley Hospital, in Washington DC, and buried in Arlington) in the family, brother to my great grandfather. Anyway, sorry this turned out not to be any help, and good luck in your hunt. If I find out anything more about Henry, maybe I'll find a connection to your Samuel. Names tend to be handed down through the generations. If I do, I'll let you know, and put it on the mailing list, as well.
