Hello: I'm new to the list and would like to share information with anyone researching this family, especially those marked with *.... James AICKINS/AKINS, b Ireland, ca 1790; d Hamilton Co., OH, prob. 18 Dec 1871; md Elisa (-) b Ireland, ca 1794. They came to America just prior to the 1820 Census of Washington Co., ME. Between 1826 and 1828, they migrated to Hamilton Co., OH, where they remained. Family history states he was a fine linen weaver, however, he is listed as a farmer in OH. The surname evolved into Aiken/Aikens. Children were: 1) *William Aickins, b Ireland, ca 1818; md ca 1839, Alezina (-), b OH, ca 1821. Known children: Charles, Alice A., Hannah, and Mary E. 2) *James Aickins, b ME, 1822. 3) Eliza A. Aickins b ME, 1823; d Hamilton Co., OH, 1910, bur Armstrong Chapel Cem., Hamilton Co.; md bef 1846, Dr. John W. NORRIS (1816-1852). Children: Caroline (1846-1907 nmd), *Alva C. (son), and Charles, (1852-1852). 4) John D. Aickins b ME, ca 1826; d Hamilton Co., OH, 26 Jun 1900; md 1864, Margaret Ann Ward. No children who survived to adulthood. 5) Thomas J. Aickins b Hamilton Co., OH, 10 Apr 1828; d 13 Jan 1905; md Hamilton Co., OH, 17 Feb 1853, Jemima Anna TINGLEY (1832-1895). Children were: *Frank R. Aiken b OH, 1854; d Clinton Co., OH, 1908. No further information. *William H. Aiken, b Hamilton Co., OH, 7 Nov 1855; d ; md 1888, Anna H. HODSON. He was a physician. One son, Hurdes, b 1891. *Elizabeth T. Aiken, b OH, 1858; d OH 1915; md Joshua BATTERTON (1847-1922). Prob. children were Anna, Helen and George. George Clemet Aiken (1864-1939) md Martha Ellen PRICE. I have all info on these ancestors. Thomas Elmer Aiken, b Hamilton Co., OH; d Alhambra, CA, 1939; md #1) Ella Boone and #2) Iola Cosby. No children. *Clarence Mortimer Aiken, b OH, 1874; md Margaret BAIN. Children Kathryn, Anne, Russell. 6) *Mary Ann Aickins, b OH, ca 1830; d ; md Hamilton Co., OH, 27 Aug 1849, John GIBBONS. Have no further information. 7) *Matilda Aickins, b OH, ca 1834. No further information 8) Emeline Aickins, b OH, ca 1837; d ; md Hamilton Co., OH, 24 Feb 1857, Thomas J. WILLIAMS. Widowed by 1860. Children Josephine (1858-1932, nmd) and Marietta.
