Greetings: Having just subscribed to this list, which appears very active, I shall submit my AIKEN/AKIN line as I have it, inviting corrections and additions: First Generation: Jesse B AIKEN (my father), born 17 Feb 1882 Granville Co, died 18 May 1958, Washington, DC; married 1909 Nelle Jenkins. Second Generation: Rufus Judson AIKEN, b 1857 Granville Co, died 1924 Granville Co; married 1881 Nora Hester. Third Generation: Redmond Pinckney AIKEN, b 1810 Granville Co, d 1907 Granville Co; married (1) Lucinda Weathers 1854, (2) Annie Bledsoe Fourth Generation: William AIKEN, b 1802 Granville Co, d 1862 Granville Co; married 1821 Elizabeth Beck. Fifth Generation: William AIKEN, b 1768 ?Chesterfield Co, VA, d before 1850 Granville Co; married 1797 Mary "Polly" Nunn There is a family history that was prepared by a son-in-law of Redmond P AIKEN which states categorically that the above William AIKEN Sr was a son of Isham AKIN ("witness William Aiken Sr"). The will of Isham AKIN in Granville Co does not mention William. All the children of Isham named in his will were born prior to his marriage in Granville Co to Lereviah Davis, as was William. This is the critical point of my query. Was William AIKEN Sr the son of Isham AKIN? Based on the information I have, the line continues: Sixth Generation: Isham AKIN, b before 1743, Chesterfield Co, VA, d 1808 Granville Co, NC; first wife unidentified; later wife Lereviah Davis. Seventh Generation: Thomas AKIN, born probably before 1700, Henrico Co, VA died ?; married Elizabeth Goode. Eighth Generation: James AKIN, born c1662, Henrico Co, died 1744 Chesterfield Co; married before 1686 Ann _____. Ninth Generation: James AKIN (or EAKIN), born c1631, died 1713 Henrico Co; married Sarah _____. This James AKIN might have been a son of James AKIN, mentioned 1639 in Charles City Co, VA. Any contributions to this line will be welcome. I am trying to identify other descendants of James as well as surnames of above wives and confirming this sequence of generations.
