I'm new to the list and I want to be a part of this group. My known ancestor is Nancy Eakins 12/24/1821-6/10/1874. She died in Monroe Co, TN and was married there on 7/8/1847 to Johnston W. Howard. Her husband was a large landowner and merchant. I have information on this family I will happily share with others. They are my gg grandparents. In 1840 Monroe Co Census a Thomas Eakins is listed with 2 sons and 4 daughters and a wife. Unfortunately no names were given. In 1850 Census Thomas is not listed. There is a William Akins with widow Jane age 60 born NC in the household. (It is surmised by county historian that Thomas has died, William married and his mother living with him). From your list I found a Thomas Eakins who marries a Jane Daves in Rutherford Co, NC on May 3, 1798. I know the dates work, and Jane from NC is a possibility. This is not very much to go on for a line member, but perhaps this is the best reason for belonging to the line. I need to know. Marilyn Moser Ball
Hello Everyone, Our list is growing with lots of new folks....so it's time to have a ROLL CALL. Everyone join in by sending an email to the list telling us of the families you are researching. Don't just send surnames....send a separate email for each major family group and tell us a little bit about WHO they are. If you have them, WHAT were their children's names??? Do you know WHERE they came from? and WHERE they went?? Include dates!!!!so we can get a sense of WHEN they were alive. Remembering to tell WHO, WHAT, WHERE & WHEN usually gives you the best chance for someone to make a connection and respond to your queries and information. DON'T FORGET THAT ATTACHMENTS AND HTML CODES WILL CAUSE YOU EMAILS TO BE BOUNCED FROM THE LIST AND NOT DELIVERED!!!!! WAIT AND SEND THOSE TO FOLKS' PRIVATE EMAIL ADDRESSES!!!! IF YOU WANT TO INCLUDE A SHORT DECENDANT OUTLINE, YOU NEED TO USE THE 'CUT & PASTE' METHOD TO INCLUDE IN THE BODY OF YOUR EMAIL TO SEND IT TO THE LIST. So, don't be shy....it's ROLL CALL time!!! Hi Cheryl, Have you joined the AKINS-L mail list yet?? I have found AKINS folks spelled EAKIN & AIKEN in the 1700's in Scot-Irish books at ancestery.com. From what all I have read online at this site, they immigrated mostly to VA/MD or the NE [Mass/NY] areas with a few settling in NC & SC by 1800. I see the EAKIN spelling migrating mostly to the West via KY & TN while AKIN[S] and AiKEN[S] lines from VA stayed in the South...SC/GA/AL/TX and line from PA went West via OH/IN/IL/KY. Naturally there are a few exceptions to this general migration pattern. Your link: http://www.rootsweb.com/akin/ does not work. I looked at your web pages and see that you have John D. AKIN b. 1795 NC as your oldest ancestor as of now. I have a John AKIN in my lines born about that time, probably in NC, that no one else seems to know anything about. You do seem to have the same children's names as in my lines. Stop by my webpage again and look at the AKINS Timeline for VA Research in a couple of days. I have some more info to add to the page. Til later....
