    1. [AKINS-L] Akins in GA
    2. I trace my AKINS line to William Hiram Akins of GA. He was born in GA May 13, 1829. In 1850 he got married to LaVinia Laney. They moved to MS by way of AL. in 1850-1870 period. (Daughter born in AL in 1858) Lived in MS from 1864 or before until his death in MS 1/24/03. I know of no relative north of SC. I find no record of the Akins serving in the CSA during "the war of northern aggression" so they may have had Northern ties but I cannot find them.

    3. Hi - I'm new to the list and decided that the best way to introduce myself is to list what scant information I have. My gggrandmother was Mary Akin (Akins, Aiken, ???)born 1798 in SC. She married John Chastain ca 1820 in SC. She died about 1859/60 in Gordon County GA. The children are: 1. Nancy, born 1821. 2. Littleton, born 6 April 1822. 3. Sarah (Sally), born 23 Nov 1826. 4. James Denton, born 11 March 1828. 5. Abner M. borh 1829. 6. Mary Jane, born 1830. 7. Jemima Katherine, born 1832. 8. Martha Elizabeth, born 24 January 1839. (my ancestor) 9. John Caldwell, born 1842. So far, I have found VERY little on my line or any related Akins lines. One puzzle though, is Littleton AKins in the census records, who gives a DOB of 1803. I suspect he might be a younger brother. The name Littleton is obviously a family name, as Mary and John named their firstborn son, Littleton Chastain. If any of this rings any bells, please contact me. Diane Bingham dbing@inreach.com

She is my gggm and married Johnston Washington Howard in Monroe Co, TN on 7/8/1847. I have been unable to prove her parentage. However, in 1840 there is a Thomas Eakins listed which could work. In 1850 household William Akins has a widow Jane age 60 which could also work since Eakins/Akins are often interchanged due to sound. I would appreciate your sending information which might help me in proving Nathan's brother Thomas is my Nancy line. I will be happy to provide her descendants that I have been able to locate. 1. AKIN ANCESTORS NEWSLETTER
    2. Ted & Angie Strzelecki
    3. Hello everyone! I am writing to each of you to again apologize for my extreme lateness. Anyone reading my last post on the Akin message board will know of my past difficulties. It seems every time I turn around something is happening to put me further behind. Just this year my family has experienced 2 more deaths. I am also closing on a very painful divorce. Then to help me out with my lateness, I have recently undergone surgery. I am not trying to whine to you or make excuses for my lateness, but just want to explain why your issues haven't reached you and ask each of you again for your patience with me. I am not trying to take anyone's money and run. This is a legitimate newsletter and is very lengthy, mainly due to the number of subscribers I have. I love doing the newsletter and the research involved. I am also open to suggestions on improving it. I have been spending this weekend trying to begin where I left off and listing those who have not received back issues. Last week I did send several packages to those who have been waiting for them. I guarantee each of you will receive your newsletters and I plan to get caught up soon so that you will begin receiving them on time. I have also been working on a master index. This is mainly for my own benefit, as I have so many families in my files, that when people ask me if I know of this person or that person, I really have to dig to find out. Now things are a bit easier as I can look on my sheets and see if I have them and where I can find the info in my files. I am still interested in helping anyone I can. Anyone reading this post who does not subscribe to my newsletter, and would like to know if I have any info on their family, PLEASE contact me. I will gladly look and see and share whatever I may have regardless if you want to subscribe or not. You may email me privately regarding this message at : atstrz@icok.net Again, I am extremely sorry for any incovenience I have caused any of you. I want to remain in good standing with everyone. I am an honest person, just have had so much bad luck, it seems, the last year and a half. Also, to Cat Tindell and Barbara Cunningham.....I have not forgotten the two of you.
