    1. [AKINS-L] ATKINS
    2. PATRICK GUDAITIS
    3. Two things come to mind. One, Atkins IS a deviation of Akins. Same for Eakins, Aiken, etc. Since the connection with the name difference goes back a few centuries, I haven't worried about the correlation. Thus, I have not included this name in my research. One day I might have to. While viewing Charlotte Co. Order Books (1789-1799) on microfilm, I have noticed a Peter and William Atkins. I kept this reference in my head as a reminder. NOT that they were related, but rather the person writing down the information could have made a mistake in spelling. Subsequent recordings by different pensmen of those records show the same Atkins. Thus, I believe they are of a different clan. The second thought is natural. Every researcher means well in their own work. Some are just better qualified than others. Thus, you take for granted one's work or check it out yourself. Family Tree Maker will not qualify the work of a researcher. Nor will they disqualify it either. FTM files should only be used for reference only and not for certification of proof of ancestery. Most ancestry groups require certification for entry. Each group has different criterea for entry. For instance, Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) tend to have less criteria than the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC). Still, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) tend to have even stricter rules for entry. Regardless, all have rules of ancestry. On the other hand, Family Tree Maker, a subsidiary of Broderbund, is a "for profit" business. They are in the business of selling information, not on checking for authenticity. Their small print says so. I understand that you can contact the author of the information found on FTM discs. If so, then contact that individual and ask that the error be corrected with a new upload to FTM. Still, FTM will not correct a previous version. That brings me back to the fact that second hand information should always be checked out first hand. I do the same with information given to me. If I don't agree or have questions, I let you know. And that you do know. Godspeed.....Patrick AKINS-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > Subject: > > AKINS-D Digest Volume 98 : Issue 22 > > Today's Topics: > #1 [AKINS-L] FTM has Errors on recent [Carol Ann Tindell <catinjax@mediao] > > Administrivia: > To unsubscribe from AKINS-D, send a message to > > AKINS-D-request@rootsweb.com > > that contains in the body of the message the command > > unsubscribe > > and no other text. 1. [AKINS-L] John Akins
    2. Gene Keusch
    3. Hello everyone, I do have a John Akins in my file that I am trying to connect to my ggg grandfather, Joseph Eakins. Joseph had a son, John, who was born 1789 and married Sarah King (2ond wife and married in KY) and possibly Lettie Melton (first wife and married in Rutherford Co., NC. Joseph's wife was Isabella Walkcup. The John Akins that I am trying to connect was born in 1785 in Ireland ? and married Sally Walker in Rutherford Co., NC on Sept 8, 1809. Sally and John had three children--Isabella, William, and Rachel. The reason I think there is a connection is from where they lived and the fact that one of their children was named Isabella. My Joseph and Isabella came from County Tyrone, Ireland, before the Revolution (maybe in the 1760's or early 1770's). Their first child was born about 1774 in NC. I feel that this other John Akins is perhaps a nephew to Joseph as Joseph is supposed to have had a brother, also known as John, who came to the US with him and Isabella. I hope I have helped someone, can anyone help me find Joseph's brother, John, and find where this John Akins fits in? Helen Keusch in southern IN gkeusch@psci.net

    3. Yes, there was an area in North Carolina that was once known as Walton Co., GA. It was an abandoned strip of land in the French Broad River Valley area near Brevard, NC in now known Transylvania Co., NC. It only existed 1803 -1811, but they did elect officials. One of the representatives to the GA State Legislature was: John AIKENS. He would have had to have been born probably before 1780 at least. Does anyone know who he was???? 3. Diane, Yes, you are right...Littleton is a family name seen several times throught the AKIN/AKINS lines from SC. Stop by my personal webpage where you'll find lots of AKINS info. Under Ezekiel AKINS, Sr. you'll find his son, Littleton AKINS b. 1803 m. Nancy CHASTAIN. I suspect but don't know right this second from memory, that Nancy was a sister to you John CHASTAIN..... OR.....we have a missing child of Ezekiel AKINS, Sr. named Mary b. 1798.... OR based on the dates and names of the children you mention, there may have been 1 or 2 children born as early as 1816 that are unknown...but that would make Littleton b. 1822 named for Mary's father, Littleton AKINS, which we all suspect was a possible son of Lewis AKINS, Ezekiel's father. In another line of AKINS we find a son name Littleon Meeks AKINS and some of us have found a man named Littleton MEEKS in Pendleton Dist., SC around 1800-1810. Between all the lines in the descendancy charts at my website, you'll find email addys for folks researching particular branches. Hope this helps, CAT Diane Bingham wrote: > Hi - I'm new to the list and decided that the best way to introduce > myself is to list what scant information I have. > > My gggrandmother was Mary Akin (Akins, Aiken, ???)born 1798 in SC.
