    1. Re: [AKINS-L] Akin(s) in CT
    2. Hi Angie, I like to read the Akin letters because I am trying to research Thomas Akin Sr b ca 1710-1714 in Mecklinburg Co VA. married ca 1735 to ( heres my problem). Thomas died in 1810 Oglethorpe Co GA. Children were: Francis?a lunatic., Joseph, Jacob, Thomas Jr, Peggy Floyd (dau?), Nancy Wilder(dau). I have talked with another Akin researcher about the spouse of Thomas. There is a lot of confusion on my part. I have Thomas married to Elizabeth Goode, dau of Joseph Goode(1699-1764) of Henrico Co VA. The lady I spoke with has him married to Avis Rudd ( ca 1740- ) dau of Joseph Rudd and wife Susannah. There is a will in Mecklinberg Co VA identifying Avis as the wife of Thomas Akin who went to GA. I had thought that Thomas Jr was the husband of Avis but perhaps not. Like I said one Thomas d. in Ga in 1810, another Thomas died in 1832 GA. I sure don't know which is the correct spouse. Thanks for listening. Ann Wise

    2. My greatgreatgrandmother was Catherine AKIN married to William BOYD. I posted this to the list recently. They were married in 1848 in N Ireland. Not sure where yet but I ordered a copy of the marriage record from the Strabane GRO which I am hoping to receive any day now. I do not know if they ever came to the US. Their daughter Isabella married James FERSON. I was told James came back and forth from N Ireland many times. I don't know if Isabella accompanied him or not. I haven't found him on a passenger list yet. As soon as I get my copy from the GRO, and I know who Catherine's father was, I will post to the list. Gloria

    2. Hi: Does the name Catherine Malinda Aikens ring a bell to anyone? She would have most likely lived in Alabama or Mississippi. Probably 1800's. She was one on of my GGG (don't know how many G's)grandmothers. Thanks bunches! Tracie Stanley

Do you have all the children's names? If not, Henry's children by Isabel were: Thomas m. Hannah Brainerd, Henry, Robert who married Sarah?, & Sarah Akin. Children by Henry and Margaret: Elizabeth m. Israel Higgins, George m. Tamson Higgins, Joseph m. Mary Sage, Samuel Akins & William Akins. I have info on some of their children. Hope to hear from you again and good luck! 3. Hello, all! I have run into a roadblock with my investigation of my direct ancestors. I can trace back to a Henry Akin who settled in Middletown, CT, in the early 1700's. He had two wives and a number of children, most of whom I haven't traced any further, yet. His first child, Thomas, is listed in the Middletown records as being born in Boston, MA, around 1721. The rest are all born in Middletown, and both his marriages are in Middletown so they must have been visiting when Thomas was born. First wife was Izabel (sic) Homes (sic). All his children went by the name Akins, but even his tombstone leaves off the 's'. Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated. I can give anyone interested five more generations (to my grandfather) if they have any connections. Thanks, Carl Akins Newark Valley, NY akins_c@mail.sunybroome.edu

I requested a copy of Catherine AKIN's marriage record from the Strabane GRO 3 weeks ago but still haven't received it. Please let me know if you know of any of the AKINs from NI. I wonder where your John AKIN's family was from before Philadelpha. My dad is from Pittsburgh. A lot of his relatives are in PA still. Both of my dad's parents, David FERSON and Mary HARA, were both from Ireland. Many of their relatives had come to US way before their families did. Sorry for rambling. Hope to hear from you soon. Actually it's good to know that there are guidelines so that a Rootsweb list won't be used for non- genelaogical purposes. 3. Hello Debbie and Everyone, Debbie has raised an interesting snag about our genealogy research......she is asking for info about a person who was living in 1970.....and chances are they are still alive. We do NOT deal with researching living persons within the Genealogical Community. Our research begins with our great-grandparents who are usually deceased.....in other words....genealogy deals only with researching dead folks. There is a reason for this......privacy laws. However, the adoption search area on the web does deal with locating living persons and they are quite a large group. Try contacting http://www.adoption.org Another tip is to request a copy of the AKINS listings in the 1970 phone book from the area in which they lived from the local library. Debbie try Seattle/Tacoma area first. Another tip is to try contacting the high school reunion search boards or news groups. Thanks for everyone cooperation....and have a great weekend, CAT Your AKINS-L ListOwner dkapp@fyi.net wrote: > Hello, > > I hope I'm not troubling anyone since I'm not actively researching > the Akins surname. 2. Hello, I hope I'm not troubling anyone since I'm not actively researching the Akins surname. I am however seeking to locate family of Ruth Akins, who lived in Washington (state) in the 1970's. She was a granddaughter of Harriet Jane Kapp (b. 1855 Pa, moved to Avalon, Mo, d. unk.), and corresponded briefly with my mother in law while doing family history research. Ruth was kind enough at that time to provide photocopy of a newspaper article on the Civil War letters of Samuel Selen Kapp, which included some old family photos submitted by her. I would like very much to obtain scanned images of the original photos if they can be located, and will share Kapp information on this line. Thanks very much. (Sorry I do not even know the actual connection from Kapp to Akins yet!) Debbie Kapp

She became a widow and then married a Ro(d)gers. I haven't come across any Aikens in SC yet so I was starting to question whether I had some wrong info.
