Akers, 92, of Waterloo, died Friday, July 21, at Allen Hospital of natural causes. She was born Feb. 10, 1908, in Dike, the daughter of Isaac S. and Mary E. Wilt Porter. She married Carl Akers in 1933, in Marshalltown. He died in 1974. Mrs. Akers taught school at West High, St. Mary's, Hudson, and Audubon. Survived by: a son, Warren of Waterloo; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: a daughter, Carol Hazelwood; a brother, George Porter; and two sisters, Velma Isley and Ethel Cowie. Private family burial was held Saturday in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
