Surnames: AKERS, HOWARD, CHAFFIN, REED Jonathan Akers, son of Blackburn Akers, Sr. and (Unknown) Blackburn, was born about 1768 in VA. On 25 Mar 1795 he married Hannah Howard, daughter of William Howard and Hannah Psalter in Montgomery Co VA. I have a note (without a source) that Jonathan died on 11 Dec 1827 in Montgomery Co VA. The 1810 census shows Jonathan with 2 WM under 10, 1 WM 10-16, himslf (26-45), 2 WF under 10, and 2 WF 10-16. Thus, Hannah is gone from the household. The 1820 census shows 4 WM under 10, 1 WM 10-16, Jonathan over 45, 3 WF 16-26, and 1 WF 26-45. Information I've collected from various sources indicates Jonathan married Rebecca Curnette Chaffin, widow of John Chaffin, the elder. She was the head of her household in the 1810 Montgomery Co. VA census with 2 WM under 10, 1 WF 10-16, and 1 WF 26-45, which is probably her. In 1840 Jonathan AND Rebecca Akers sold land near Little River to John Chaffin, probably her son. In June 1842 Rebecca alone sold land to Joseph Akers, possibly meaning Jonathan died 1840-1842 instead of the 1827 I have recorded. The latter transaction was witnessed by a Jonathan Akers, though. Rebecca's husband or a different person? It was also witnessed by James Akers, who married Sarah "Sally" Reed. On 10 Aug 1891 James Akers, a 76 year old widower, son of Jonathan and Rebecca Akers, married Nancy Lefflew, 60 year old widow, in a Floyd Co VA ceremony conducted by Humphrey Duncan. This would seem to mean that Jonathan and Rebecca were married after 1810 and before 1815. When did Jonathan die? When did Hannah Howard die? When did Jonathan and Rebecca marry? Who was the Jonathan who witnessed the 1842 land transaction? Any additional information would be very welcome! Best wishes, Earl B. Hi Earl...... Haven't made contact lately so seeing your post thought I would drop you aline. I don't have any new info for you but was wondering if William "Carroll" Akers is still living? He wrote to Virginia Sheldon at Wenatchee in 1992 and sent her alot of info. How is he related to you? Is he a great uncle? Hope this finds all well with you and yours and that you are having a great summer. I'm trying to master some of this internet but it is sure discouraging at times when you can't even get into what you think is a place with info. I did find several on SS death index, but not all. Good luck on your search and keep in touch. Deanna Cartmill ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET!
