    1. Re: [AKERS] William Akers 1776-1850
    2. If I were to hazard a guess, I would say that William (1776-1850) was the son of William who was the son of John Akers who d. 1783 in Amwell, Hunterdon Co., NJ. In his will, John mentions: Wife: Martha Eldest son: William Sons: Thomas & Jonathan Daughters: Else Abot & Susanna Roberts & her son Amos William, probably the same as named in John Akers will, gives a few personal clues in his Revolutionary War pension file: 28 Nov 1832 "William Akers a resident of Sterling Township in the County of Wayne and State of Pennsylvania aged Ninety six years" "He volunteered his service for one month in Hunterdon County, New Jersey about the 20th of August in the year 1776" "he was discharged and went back to his home in Hunterdon County where he remained until 1778 when he removed to Pennsylvania near Stroudsburg" "The deponent removed into Wayne County in Sterling Township the last time about ten years since and resides there now." "He has children both in Penn and New Jersey and has alternately resided with them" "The deponent was born September 7th 1736 in Hunterdon County New Jersey." 4 Sep 1833 "when he was so stationed at the Blazing Star his father brought him information of the death of his brother who was killed in the battle at Long Island" "his brother Thomas Akers was Ensign" "About the 20th of June 1778 I moved to Stroudsburg in Northampton County Pennsylvania" 10 Oct 1838 "Alice Akers his Daughter that supported him" This William's places of residence mirror those of William (1776-1850). I show the following children for the elder William: 1. Elizabeth m. John Sheerer 2. William m. Mary Coe 3. Polly m. Gabriel Davis 4. Elsie m. Bartle Bartleson I believe that the elder William was residing in the hh of his daughter, Elsie, in 1820 and 1830. I am a descendent of William Akers through his son John Clement Akers and I grew up in Iowa. Family records that have been handed down tell me that William Akers' full name was William Clement Akers (1776-1850). I have some dates to add for a few of the children. ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

    2. Mary Stephens
    3. This all seems to fit however his revolutionary war pension file mentions a daughter named Alice. My information doesn't list any sister for William (1776-1850) named Alice. Any thoughts on this?
