Akers, 84, of Princeton, died Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Carillon Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va. Born September 24, 1924 at Weyanoke, she was the daughter of the late Frank Mack and Mae Short Mack. Mrs. Akers was a member of the Bailey Memorial Baptist Church at Giatto. She worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio building bombers during World War II. She loved to cook and read the Bible. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Gaythel D. Akers in 2004; three brothers, Carl Short, Paul Mack and Darrell Mack; and one grandson, Wesley Akers. Survivors include three sons, Larry Akers and his wife Linda and Barry Akers and his wife Molly, all of Lashmeet, and Randall Akers and his wife Sherri of Princeton; one daughter, Donna Sue Akers Lusk of Tazewell, Va.; one brother, Charlie Mack and his wife Mildred of Lashmeet; two sisters, Maryline Bailey of Princeton and Ruby Hodge and her husband Jamie, all of Princeton; a daughter-in-law, Natalie Akers of Lashmeet; nine grandchildren, Jeff, Melissa, Rodney, Bradley, Lorie, Deana, Mindy, Aaron and Gaberial; seven great-grandchildren, Noel, Scott, Kayla, Justin, Hannah, Chloe and Isaac; and one great-great-great granddaughter, Chloe Adriana. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Ronnie Thomure officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Lusk, Brad Lusk, Rodney Akers, Aaron Akers, Gaberial Akers and Jason Charchalla. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, P.O.
