Born August 2, 1946 at Slab Fork, she was the daughter of Clinton Akers and Oma Mills Akers of Matoaka. Mrs. Walker was a member of the Rich Creek Baptist Church where she was Awana leader for more than 25 years. She was a former employee of Maidenform and Kentucky Fried Chicken in Princeton. She was a lifetime member of Weight Watchers. She enjoyed crocheting in her spare time. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Garfield Walker. In addition to her parents, survivors include her husband of 38 years, Tola Walker; three children, Denise Adams and her husband Junior of Vale, N.C., Kevin Walker of Hinton and Rebecca Beltran and her husband Fausto of Princeton; three sisters, Brenda Hall and her husband Clifford, and Connie Cook and her husband Randall, all of Matoaka, and Debbie Barbour and her husband John of Mt. Olive; two brothers, Clinton Akers, Jr. and his wife Vickie of Princeton and Harold Wayne Akers and his wife Kimberly of Pinoak; seven grandchildren, Brittany, Victoria, Dakota, Casey, Adam, Katlyn and Tyler; and her mother-in-law, Dovie Walker of Princeton. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2008 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Ralph Calfee officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call today from 5-7 p.m. at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.bailey-kirk.com. Akers, Clinton MATOAKA - Clinton Akers, 84, of North Thompson Hill, Matoaka, died Saturday, October 25, 2008 at his home. Born August 30, 1924 at Arista, he was the son of the late Charles William Akers and Florence Justice Akers. Mr. Akers was a member of the Rich Creek Baptist Church at Spanishburg. He was a disabled miner last working at Turkey Gap for Consol. He was a miner for 60 years and a member of the U.M.W.A. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Walker in 2008; six brothers, Clarence Akers, Otis Akers, Jess Akers, Ray Akers, Roy Akers and Claborne Akers; one half-brother, Murray Cruise; one half-sister, Virginia Cruise; and one grandson, Ray Hall. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Oma W. Mills Akers of the home; three daughters, Brenda Hall and her husband Clifford and Connie Cook and her husband Randall all of Matoaka and Debbie Barbour and her husband John of Mt. Olive; two sons, Clinton Akers, Jr. and! his wife Vickie of Princeton and Harold Akers and his wife Kimberly of Pinoak; two sisters, Betty Mills of Beeson and Ruby Combs of Princeton; a son-in-law, Tola Walker of Bluefield; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; and a special friend, Clayton Dollinger of Pembroke, Va.Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Ralph Calfee officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
