Born 8 Aug 1937, in Matoaka, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Dale and Letha Cline Akers. He was a retired coal miner with Consolidation Coal Co. Turkey Gap Mine and a member of UMWA District 29. He was a member of the Lashmeet Community Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lloyd Akers. Survivors include his wife, Norma Dovie Booher Akers; three sons, Melvin Akers and wife Sherri of Matoaka, Gaylon Akers and wife Darlena of Charleston, West Virginia and Daniel Akers of Lashmeet; four granddaughters and one grandson; three brothers, Kenny Akers and wife Pat of Lerona, West Virginia, Doug Akers and wife Rhonda of Princeton, West Virginia and Franklin Akers of Baltimore, Maryland; five sisters, Edna Akers and husband Russ, Fonda Stengel and husband Mike and Alice Glattfelder and husband Don, all of Baltimore, Edith Meyres and husband B! ob of Neodesha, Kansas and Betty Akers and husband Lonnie of Alderson, West Virginia. Services were held at the Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton. Burial followed at the Peyton Family Cemetery in Beeson, West Virginia. Pallbearers were Robert Steffey, J.C.
