Born 2 Dec 1916, in Widemouth, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Willis Boyd Akers and Cordie Moye Akers. He was of the Baptist faith. He was the assistant mine forman at Deerfield, West Virginia, and was the mine foreman at Herndon, West Virginia and Itmann, West Virginia, before retiring. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alva "Peggy" Honaker Akers; one daughter, Linda Frye; and one sister, Ennis Akers. Survivors include two grandsons, Dr. Thomas Jay Frye III of Kingsport, Tennessee and Steven Ray Frye and wife Davenne of Edgewater, Florida; one great-grandson, Duncan Frye of North Carolina; three brothers, Clifford Akers and wife Marie of Eatonville, Washington, Willis Akers of Matoaka, West Virginia and Arnold Akers and wife Drema of Rock, West Virginia; two sisters, Ruby Davis of Bluefield, West Virginia and D! elores Steele and husband Robert of Pembroke Pines, Florida; several nieces and nephews, including Marietta Buckner of Princeton, West Virginia and Vicki Bush of Suwanee, Georgia. Services were Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton. Burial followed at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
