Hi Pat, I went to the Montgomery County Courthouse in Christiansburg, Virginia last Christmas to research Akers, and not only pushed my line back three generations but also connected with a number of unknown relatives that have proven to be wonderful people. What I found was that beginning with my Great-great-grandfather most of them didn't write, so all of the documents were actually recorded by someone who may have been guessing how to spell the name. I think I found three different spellings for Akers in one marriage certificate: Acres, Ackers and Akers. So, after all this long-winded message, my view is that any spelling of a particular-sounding name is weighted equally, especially in our case Ackers, acres, etc. Conclusion: you should remain in this forum. :) -----Original Message----- From: PRobets@aol.com [mailto:PRobets@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, October 20, 1999 11:54 AM To: AKERS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Akers List Are the A C K E R S posted to this list. When I subscribed I thought so but I never see any Ackers. The reason I am asking is that maybe I should not have subscribed to this list as I do not have any A K E R S in my geneology. Thank you.
