    1. Re: Spelling of Akers
    2. Donna, My grandfather Alfred Earl Akers told us that we were Holland Dutch and yes, the Holland Dutch came from Norway where Olso was originally the site of the Akers Castle...pronounced, AWKERS...just as you say. My uncle just got back from Oslo, where he was recieved as family among the AKERS there. The Normans spread out to conquer...some to England, thus, ACRES, some to Germany, thus, AKERS, and some to Holland, thus Van AKKERS, or AKERS as we know it. This much I know....What I don't know is WHO is William Akers, the father of George WAshington Akers born in PA in 1837, FAyette Co. William married Jane Galen and there are reported to be 15 children in the family. All of you who read my questions on this matter must be getting sick of me, but guess what, I am not giving up yet. Been at this for 20 years and if it takes another 20, by golly, I'll get it nailed down! Tenacity is a Akers Virtue! Diana
