Born January 3, 1910 in Elgood, W.Va. he was the son of the late Noah and Roena Hylton Akers. Mr. Akers retired from the Allied Chemical Plant in Dublin, Va. and was a faithful and active member of the Dublin United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Meadows Akers and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors include one daughter with whom he made his home for the past four years, Anna Sylvadean Hurst and her husband John S. Hurst, III of Richmond; four grandchildren, John S. Hurst, IV of Richmond, Va., Deborah K. Krupp of Chester, Va., Larry Akers and his wife Linda of Draper, Va. and Judy Knicely and her husband Dale of Spotsylvania, Va.; seven great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday! , August 31, 2009 at the Dublin United Methodist Church. Interment followed at the Highland Memorial Gardens in Dublin.
