Meredith Thompson AKERS, Jr. and Gideon A. AKERS, sons of Meredith Thompson AKERS, Sr. of Marion Co AL, attempted to enlist in the First Alabama Cav., US, on 1 Dec 1863 at Camp Davies, MS. Both were rejected by the surgeon "on account of physical disability". Does anybody know the nature of these physical disabilities? Meredith, Jr. had previously served with two regiments of MS Cavalry (CS) and went on to become a prominent politician in Marion Co AL. Earl B.
