    1. Akers List
    2. Are the A C K E R S posted to this list. When I subscribed I thought so but I never see any Ackers. The reason I am asking is that maybe I should not have subscribed to this list as I do not have any A K E R S in my geneology. Thank you. Pat

    3. I belong to several mailing lists and am deeply disturbed by the negative postings on this list. If we had all the answers and had found all the individuals we were looking for, there would be no need for this list. We all are looking for answers and information and finding that information is a long and involved process. We all need to help each other not criticize. Everyone needs to check the accuracy of their facts and realize that no one person OWNS this information....further more if you don't want it used or shared Don't post it on your web page!!!

    2. I have talked with several older Aunts. They both believe their stories to be accurate and truthful of the family historical accounts. Both are different, but they were bothinthe same places talking to the same people at the same time. Errors occur and no one should be blamed for getting information from "reliable" sources that may have not remembered as accurataely as they thought. Everything does need to be paper tracked and proven even if it appearantly defies the Maiden Aunts that are "Right". No mud slinging here....been there, done that, got egg on my face too and am sticking to the facts, ma'm, just the facts. My family: George Franklin Akers son of George Washington Akers, b. 1838 Fayette Co. Pa. and Mary Larick b. Ohio. Parents of Geo. Wash are William Akers and Jane Galen. Got any of Geo. Wash's brothers or sisters out there other than James Akers in Divide Colorado in the 1880's? Am trying to find the remaining 13 brothers and sisters and also William/ Jane Galen's parents. 1. Akers list, isn't it.

    3. Amen, Sonia-- I subscribed so I could read other Akers input, post mine, perhaps somebody. I did no subscribe to read all the bickering over each others perfect research. Please stay on the subject name. I do not even recognize the names they are debating over. Just be as diligent as possible in your research. Facts, not fiction, is the name of the genealogy game. And especially on the Akers records I've seen on films, in books, etc., we need to double check before we assume they are correct. Original records is the only way to do this. Donna Hull My line: Henry Akers b. 1801 VA, m. Delilah Miller 1821 Estill Co., KY their son, Harvey Akers b. 1826 KY, m. Martha Jane McHaley 1861 TX their dtr Sarah Elizabeth Akers, b. 1871 CA, m. Jesse Rule Fike 1898 CA their dtr Thelma Elizabeth Akers, b. 1903 CA, m. Charles Earl McKinley Hull, my parents. Thanx for a chance to speak out.

    2. I received this message today(it is in reference to my website with my family file on it): it):-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ------------------------------ Kenneth, Can I ask you where you obtained the information that you posted on "my" Absalom Hurst? The material that I gave you last spring on Absalom is documented and accurate. First of all, he was born 15 May 1750 in Stafford County, Virgina. His parents were Thomas Hurst and Mary (unknown). He died in Wythe Co., Virginia in 1829. Elizabeth, his wife, may have been a Breedwell or a Nunn, but she was definitely NOT a McNew. There were never any McNew's in Stafford Co., or in Shenandoah Co. for that matter. The McNew's were in Washington/Russell Co. Absalom, Sr. was never in those counties. Also his son John married Mary (Molly) McCarty - NOT McCartHy. I find very little in the data that you posted on Absalom Hurst that is correct. I have also just completed some intensive research on the Hursts in Tennesee and just submitted an FGS to June Reed's Home page on Mark Hurst. His first wife was Not Letita, but Maletta Southern (a twin of Matilda Southern). There are many more errors.... I truly am dismayed to see yet more unverified and inaccurate material being circulated. Gwen Hurst Woodstock, Shenandoah Co., Virginia Virginia--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- I really enjoyed all the help and positive feedback I have received on my website this past week, so the message listed above really took me by surprise. 1. Mary "Polly" (AKERS ?) JACOBS
    2. Hoping to solve a great family mystery. MARY "Polly", who died a JACOBS, was born 9 September 1799 in either Montgomery or Patrick Co., VA. MARY was married about 1818. Her husband's name is unknown, but she had a least one son: CLAIBORN R., (1819-1849), who lived in Carter Co., KY. MARY was married in Floyd Co., KY on 1 Feb. 1829 to CARTER HENRY JACOBS. On the marriage record, her name is listed as ARES. This could be AYERS, but it could also be ACRES, AKERS, etc. Carter and Mary had many children and lived in Floyd, Perry, Lawrence and Carter counties, KY. Mary died on 3 Jan. 1880, probably in Sangamon Co., IL. Could MARY be connected to CLAYBOURN AKERS, who married ELIZABETH THOMPSON in 1789 in Montgomery Co, VA ? Mary's son was named Claiborne. She lived in both Montgomery Co., VA and Floyd Co., KY, where the AKERS line can be found. CARTER JACOBS father was ROWLY JACOBS, who was a neighbor of CLAYBOURN AKERS in the 1810 census of Montgomery Co., VA. By 1820, Rowly and Carter Jacobs were in Floyd Co., KY. I am thinking that MARY was either a daughter or daughter-in-law of Claybourn Akers and Elizabeth Thompson. Any help is greatly appreciated. Robert (Jeff) Bartholomew Springfield, MO

Susannah Blackburn was the mother of Blackburn Akers. As far as I know the name of Blackburn, Sr.'s first wife has not been proven. To correct another misconception, Susannah Skaggs was the second wife of Blackburn, Sr. and not the wife of Blackburn, Jr. Blackburn, Sr. gave consent for Jr.'s marriage to Elinor Howard in 1797 so Jr. couldn't have married Susannah in 1786. I have a copy of the consent. My Akers line of descent beginning with William I of Rappahannock Co VA is at my web site, www.geocities.com/ebasr/ and I'd be happy to expand (and expound) on that information privately. 3. Whie I can't prove it, I believe Valentine and Solomon were either Blackburn's brothers, his nephews, or cousins --- not his sons. They were all listed as adults in the 1787 tithables in Montgomery County. William Akers who married Nancy Sowers lists Blackburn as his father in the marriage record. There is a Blackburn Jr., as well. I have to get into my records. I will send you more. Dan Fisher P.S. My relationship to Blackburn goes through Andrew the son of William and Nancy. james gore wrote: > Can someone on the list share with me the names of the > children of Blackburn Akers and Susannah Blackburn. > All I have is Blackburn, Jr. and Valentine. > > thanks, > > james > > ===== > > __________________________________________________ > Do You Yahoo!? > Bid and sell for free at http://auctions.yahoo.com > > ==== AKERS Mailing List ==== > Support our hosts - RootsWeb - to join, go to > http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html > > ============================== > RootsWeb.com now offers UNLIMITED Web space for FREE! > Sign up today for RootsWeb's Freepages program: > http://cgi.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/acctform.cgi
