    1. AKERS in VA and MO
    2. Arlene Krings
    3. I have recently connect the dots from my Henry Warren AKERS to James A. AKERS and wife Martha Ann Helen OWENS, who were born 15 Aug. 1835 and 6 Apr. 1846, respectively, in VA. James became a physician and moved with his family to Raymondville, Texas County, MO. The names of their children, who were all born in VA (some in Washington Co.) were: William W. D. (who also became a physician); Arthur Cline; Winfield Scott; Lula, unnamed baby girl and Eliza Ethel b. 23 Jan 1882. William became a physician, served in the Spanish Am. War and settled in Tyrone, Texas Co., OK and had a son Homer. Arthur Cline married Lucy Alice BELL, d/o Isaac Ellsberry BELL and Mary Jane HENSLEY, 27 May 1893 in Texas Co., MO. A son, Luther Virgil AKERS was born 29 June 1895. Arthur and son Luther (Virgil as he was known) also settled in Tyrone, OK. Virgil married Imogene Maud Mildred BEALS 21 Jan 1916 in Liberal, KS. This couple had three girls, the eldest being Audrey Bess AKERS. Eliza married Dow N. ELLISON and after living for a time in OK moved to Kansas City, MO. Henry Warren, who also served with his brother William in the Spanish Am. War, married Effie May LEECH d/o Isaac J. LEECH and Sarah Ellen SHIPLEY, 13 Sept. 1895 in Texas County. The names of their children were: Naomi, Winnie, Arllie, and Gertrude. They lived in OK for a while and eventually settled in Kansas City, MO. James and Martha died in Texas County, MO and are buried in a family cemetery (AKERS Family) located in Lynch Twp. The dates of their death are given as 7 Jul 1890 (him) and 28 May 1909 (her). Anyone recognizing these names and wishing to exchange information, I would greatly appreciate it. Arlene AKERS Krings

    3. Let me make it clear, I don't want to unsubscribe, I just want to take a break. It is too hectic at work right now for me to even think and I have been sick with nausia, vomiting and diarrea on and off for 4 months now. I must think of my health and cut myself away from too many things at this point. I will be back, but not till after christmas. I still wish to recieve the postings. 1. Going on Hiatus till after christmas
    2. Jeanne Howell
    3. This is to inform you that I will be going on hiatus till after Christmas season is over. Too busy around here to figure out much anyway. Almost too busy to spit around her so I am taking some time off from Genealogy, cleaning out my mailbox before then and just waiting till it is all over with to start up again. I am also before I go updating my web site hopefully to get it done before the end of the week, although the Odell's are giving me a large pain in the neck because of duplicates. All of my dad's side is posted, some of my mom's. Hopefully I will get Odell's and other families on mom's side done this week, but no promises. Looking for any errors, connections, descendants, or ancestors that can be found. I don't mind people pointing out errors, I know that there are some in there, as I am not perfect nor can ever be perfect. I also love finding cousins and new links to people and that is part of the fun. So until after Christmas season, goodbye and please feel free to look on my site. It is most resent listing as it was updated last week. Jeanne ===== Everyone is related, we just have to find the connections. Jeanne M. 3. Just to add some spice: Not everyone who got born, baptised, married etc. could spell or write their name. If it was left to the parson or whatever, the name would be spelled as it sounded to that person. I have several Akers / Acres even EKERS in my line. The "sound-spelling" of the name would vary according to how familiar the recorder was with the local accent or dialect. Loosen up, everybody, if you don't consider variations you could miss out on an ancestor. 3. Hi again, I copied an addy below for Boone County WV 1850 census. If you go backward on the URL to the "wv" before "boone/census/1850" you can access the other counties in West Virginia. Not all have census - you just have to take a peek into each one. Hope this helps, Miss Dee ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/wv/boone/census/1850cens.txt ----- Original Message ----- From: CRICHENRI@aol.com To: AKERS-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, November 02, 1999 9:17 PM Subject: Census Dee, I can not find any Akers on this web sight either...Also is there a web sight for WV Census anywhere for the 1890 Census...Appreciate any help here. 3. Sorry group - had another "senior moment" and gave the wrong URL for the census. ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/in/parke/census/1850/ this addy should give you the whole 1850 census for Parke County, Indiana. Besides AKERS I found WEBSTER, VARNER, MILLER, BLAKE surnames that connected to my AKERS family. A real bonanza! Good luck Miss Dee

    3. Hello Cousins, Just found the most informative site on the web. There is a bunch of AKERS/ACRES listed here: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/in/parke/census/1850/pg0207a.txt Had been looking for my George Washington Akers in Virginia or Kentucky or Iowa. Well, I quite by accident stumbled upon him in this census site. Also found his mother living with his family. Wow! Now I know her name (Elinore) and that she and George Washington Akers were both born in Virginia, (according to the census). 8-) Happy hunting, Miss Dee

    1. Missing AKERs KY to Illinois to ??
    2. Jim Scofield
    3. Hi, There a number of descendants of Peter AKERS/ACRES/AKES (b VA) and Mary SHELTON of Owen Co, Kentucky that moved to Lawrence Co, Illinois that I have lost after the 1850 census. These seem to include: William (b 1826) and son Jasper (b1847), Rutherford (b1832), Daniel (1827), William (1821), and Eliza (1841). Two other children are Thomas and Mary Anne. June V. Phillips in her 1978 book "Akers Summers and Related Families" follows down descendants of Thomas. She also lists an Abner (died abt 1848 Owen Co) and a John also died Owen Co. Mary (Anne) Akers married William McCarty 23 Feb 1854 in Lawrence Co, IL and settled eventually in Tipton Co, Indiana. Does anyone have information on other descendants of Peter and Mary? Thanks Jim Scofield, Livermore CA

    1. Re: Just chekcing
    2. Glennice, Yes, Indeed! I have had several in Iowa. My Geo Wash Akers was married in Cedar, Co. in 1864 to Mary Larick and had their first born, William Henry in Mahaska County on April 22, 1867. George Franklin Akers, my great grandfather was born in July 21, 1870. Mary took a wagon train with her folks to Colorado where she died in 1874 after birthing Daisy B. Akers in 1873. The kids got split u, but Geo. Wash returned to Iowa and remained there until he died in Rosehill, Mahaska Co., in 1910. Doe anything fit? Geo Wash was a gad about....had several wives, sometimes at the same time and could easily have had chidlren by others. Who knows! Got any documentations? Anxious to hear from you. Diana
