If anyone on the list is close to Denver, they have an excellent genealogy dept at their public library downtown. There are at least 2 or 3 books on Akers lines (Sorry! my memory fails me as to title!!!) Just remember two of them seemed to cover southern lines and Texas families.... There's also a group of AKER (no S) families in Wythe County VA in the 1800s. THey may have come from Shenandoah County, VA and do not appear to be related to Blackburn AKERS and his descendents/relations. Jackson AKER of Wythe County married Phoebe ABSHER in 1840. Their daughter Mary Jane AKER married William A. HEARN. Mary Jane & William were my 2-great grandparents. To add to the confusion, some county records occasionally spell the surname AKERS. --jsl ----- Original Message ----- From: <CraigH9557@aol.com> To: <AKERS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 08, 2000 10:09 PM Subject: Re: benjamin Akers > Cindi > > There seems to be a VA family of Akers and a NJ family of Akers who may or > may not be related early on. I have "Our Kin" by Ackerly and Parker...Bedford Co., Virginia history. Mena
Hi Craig, Yes, I would like any information you have on the AKERS line from VA. As far as I know... my AKERS line comes from VA. I have a list of generations dating back to 1645 when William Akers I came from England. Also, (to others that were talking about nationality) my grandfather always said that he was English, Irish, and Scottish. Of course, the English part came from his father... his mother must have been Irish & Scottish... not entirely sure. Happy Hunting, Cindy Mueller CindyM1071@aol.com

Anita, I have tried several times to tie my line in with your line here in Akersville. I know several descendants that live close by me and we visit every once in a while. They are direct lineage to your line. We are 10 years off in the birth dates....and I have to go pull my records, but my George Washington Akers married a Mary Larick in Cedar Co., Iowa and his mother, Jane Galen is located in Iowa in 1870 (?) with her son G.W. Akers and appearantly a brother to G.W. named James. My obituary for Geo. Wash. states that there were 15 children in the family. Do you have any such information in your records? His father is: William or B. F. Akers, born PA His mother is: Jane Galen-foreign birth In talking with a few of the people of your line, you are missing a William and I have a William to place....but does my William(or B.F.Akers) fit your slot? That's the question. I have not confirmed the name, I have seen it on docs both ways; William and B.F....but Williams' are often called 'Bill' so I thought that might be the case. Let me know what you think, Diana Akers Anxious Knowles
Cindi There seems to be a VA family of Akers and a NJ family of Akers who may or may not be related early on. I belond to the NJ family (at least we think so). They moved from NJ to NY, IN, OH,and IL settling around Adams co. IL in 1835. I will keep a look out for Akers that belong to your family. There are also lots of Akers in KY I have lists of many Akers in VA, KY, and IN if you wish additional info. Craig Looking for Jesse Akers b. 1769 d. after 1845. also any Herrons, Sammons, or DeMoss families.
Craig, Thanks for posting your line for me. I still am 'outta luck' though. Your Fayette Co., is in the wrong state for my line. You got a good thing going here! Congratulations! I know we are all related if we get back far enough. do you know anything about the differences between the Akers of Europe Descent and the Acres of English descent. I know all Akers came from the Norway/Oslo area as Vikings originally, but there is a lot of time inbetween that needs to be filled in. My grandfather always said we were Holland-Dutch. How about you? Thanks , Diana
Bobbie Thanks for the info on Ralph. I have added it to my list. Do you have any info on his brother William who we think is a direct ancestor of ours? Do you have any Akers who moved to NY in 1810 or so, IN before 1820, OH around 1820, Adams co. IL around 1835? Also looking for info on William's son Jesse and Jesse's children. Craig Herron
Does anyone have the book "Our Kin" by W.R. Akers? I haven't heard of this book mentioned by Donna and would like to know about it. Thank You, Diana Akers Knowles.
Brenda, Who is your Frederick Akers? and who are his parents? Did he have any brothers? Thought I would ask, just in case there is a connection here. Thanks, Diana Akers Knowles
James Arch Akers and Melvia Hart had thirteen children, two of whom are Benjamin W. and Martin David. I have spouses for only Millie Zay, Ida, Margarguerite and Martin David. My grandmother, Faye, was married to my grandfather Martin David Akers. I talked to her this morning and asked her if she remembered who all of my grandfather's siblings were married to. She gave me the following information... please remember that my grandmother is 82, and her memory isn't as sharp as it used to be: Millie Zay was married to Thomas O'Brien and they had 2 kids (Thomas & Janet). Marguerite was married to Teddy Kilgore. Ida Katherine was married to Iggy Fisher and they had 3 kids one of which is named Rich who lives in Wisconsin. Oakly (she couldn't remember who he was married to) Benjamin was married to Opal and they had at least 5 kids. Ransom "Doc" was married to Mary and they had about 6 kids. Charles was married to Nina and they had 3 kids. Archie was married to Mary and they had 5 kids. Harry was married twice, 1st wife named Opal and 2nd wife Linda, had a total of 4 kids. Floyd was married to Edna and had at least 2 kids, then divorced her and was living with a woman in CA where he died. James (she couldn't remember who he was married to). Robert was married to Joann and they were separated when Joann died of cancer. They had 7 kids. Martin David (my grandfather) was married once before to a woman named Lavita Keller, they had one child (my aunt) named Donna. Then he divorced her and married my grandmother, Faye and had three more kids. Harry and Robert are the only ones still living. If anyone has any other info and would like to add to this please feel free to do so. Thanks for letting me share. Cindy Mueller
