    3. Listers-- I am happy to post the first of several migration groups. DO NOT use this as proof, but as a helpful hint as to what may have been. I made this list in the 1970's & I do not remember my sources tho, at the time, I considered them adequate. I have nothing more & cannot answer questions except on my direct line which is in the Estill Co. group. Donna MIGRATION OF KENTUCKY AKERS Note: Name spellings varied so much during the early times, so I checked all the possible spellings I could imagine: Aker(s), Acer(s), Acre(s), Awker(s), Eaker(s), Akes, Akis. In the case of census data, I checked in indexes but did not always read the film. GROUP I: Floyd, Pike, Lawrence, Johnson, Carter & Greenup Counties. 2. Cathy I live in Baltimore and the DAR is just down the road in Washington. They have a library that is open to the public weekdays and Sunday afternoons. It is a very nice library and you can also view but not copy applications of members, you can copy the source material though. Actually what was notarized was a letter stating the contents of a bible this being before copy machines. Craig

    3. Re Shearer-Akers Genealogy: It can be ordered from Higginson Book Company 148 Washington Street P. O. Box 778 Salem, MA 01970 Phone: 1-978-745-7170 Fax: 1-978-745-8025 e-mail: higginsn@cove.com The price in the catalog is $25.50, for "soft-bound" copy. Hard cover copy is $10.00 more. Plus $4.95 shipping. Allow 8-10 weeks for delivery; plus an additional two weeks for hardcover binding. To fax, you need a copy of the order form from their catalog. You can place a credit card order by phone. They accept check, money order, Mastercard or Visa. There are two other Akers Genealogies listed in the catalog: a} "Akers Family of Franklin Co., VA," combined with the Boone, Cannaday, Hickmqan & Pridgen families, by A. E. Akers. 159pp., c. 1953 - $23.00 b} "Our Kinsfolk," (descendants of Wm. Akers of NJ, ca. 1698), by W. R. Akers. 114 pp., c. 1957 - $19.50 I have both the Shearer-Akers, and "Our Kinsfolk" in the paperback versions. Two folks have offered to purchase Shearer-Akers. If Catherine Cline or Tom Bryan would like to purchase both, they're yours for $35.00 plus $3.20 for Priority Mail. . .and your address. I must tell you, however, that some of the material is yellow hi-lited (not too much in either book) with some penciled notations/generation numbers when I thought these Akerses were descendants from the Hart side. Catherine's request came in first for Shearer-Akers: I'll wait to hear from either one of you. 3. I have traced my AKERS line to Abraham AKERS(b. abt. 1827, Indiana). He lived his adult life in Louisville, KY where he worked as a foreman for the B. F. Avery Co. I have not been able to find any hint of his parents or siblings. The only hint I have to which county of IN he was born in is the mention of Floyd county on the death certificate of one of his children. His descendants have mostly stayed in Louisville to this day. I am descended from him through my ggrandfather Abraham (Abram) Jr. (b. Jan 17, 1860) My grandmother Rose Josephine AKERS LEFFEL (b. Nov 11, 1883)was his daughter. I would love to hear from any other Louisville, KY and/or southern Indiana AKERS researchers. -- Teresa Merz Bean http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~tmbean/

    3. Diana-- I've been under the impression that William of NJ was English. It has been suggested by some that he might be Quaker. I have seen no proof of either. Do you think Wm of NJ was German, then. He immigrated long before the huge migration groups of Germans came to this continent. My proven ancestor Henry AKERS b. 1801 KY or VA, had a son named Henry Francis AKERS b. 1838, d. 1837 CA. Henry Francis stated to a granddaughter-in-law that asked if his parents spoke another language. He said "Yes, but us kids never knew what it was." Henry b. 1801 m. Delilah MILLER whose father spoke German--don't know about her mother. Also could have been pig-latin :-) Donna > Donna and all, > > My granfather always told us we were "Holland-Dutch" and his father as > well > as his father's father was born in Pa. 1. William & Elizabeth MARTYE AKERS
    2. Donna Hull
    3. Cathy-- I could never verify that he was the son of Robert but you are the first to come up with some proof that sounds reasonable. If Robert is not the father, would your researching to disprove that have unburied some records on who the father of Wm AKERS who m. Elizbeth MARTYE??? In an earlier message you mentioned his father was Robert of the Tidewater area. I'm not that familiar with what is called Tidewater area. Do you have a county name & possible lineage of that Robert?? Any helpful hints as to where I might find these records. 3. Larry-- Thanx so much for repsponding to my query. Questions: 1. Do you think there were more siblings. This complaint between the siblings & Susannah & James, Could you tell if it was over the estate of Simon's or Mary's. 2. Have you looked at tax records for Highland Co.? If not, I'll look at them, then send you some data. 3. Could you indicate where the children of Simon & Mary migrated to. 4. Can you give me the name of the Cemetery where Simon, Mary & others are buried. My Henry Akers b. 1801 was from a family of 14 children: 2 girls & 12 boys. Simon of Highland Co., OH is said to have had a large family & large was used to compare it with comtemporaries who had 10-12 children, so I would think his "large" family would be more than 12. I can send you a descendancy of my Henry if you'd like. I've worked this line 45 years & my grandmother before me. Your information may be the first break-through. Donna Donna, On Simon AKERS of Greenbrier Co. VA who relocated to Paint Twp., Highland Co., OH (1756-22 Aug 1828) and Mary G SMITH (1752-11 Oct 1828). Death dates are on their grave markers. Children (not in order): Susannah (4 Apr 1791-7 Apr 1845) m. James Murdock (1795-4 Jul 1870); William; Samuel; Thomas; Elizabeth m. Oliver Curry; Rachel m. William McVey; Mary m. Christopher Vandeventer; and Ruth m. John J. Smith. Names of siblings we got out of the October 1828 bill of complaint filed by the siblings against James and Susannah.
