Ed I was using a little shorthand to indicate where he was in what year, trying to find a pattern of migration. Craig

Hello, Maybe this is part of the family that stopped for a while in Iowa on its way to Utah. Jane Akers b. 1794 -- the daughter of Thomas Akers b. abt 1882 and Kate Malone-- married Jesse Purcell. They were Mormons and stopped in Iowa and never left there. I do not know if part of their group went on to Salt Lake or not. Jesse and Jane had 7 or 8 children. One of their daughters Mariah married George L. D. Jones and they had eight children. Jane's brother Bedy or Benjamin had a son named Wm. C. Akers. Jane is one of my favorite foremothers. She must have been a valiant lady. She went to Iowa in a covered wagon with her children and grandchildren. W.L. Barker

Dear All, I am happily corrected in the ages of Akers Death Dates!!! the women in my line lived long, but not the men. My Grandfather, Alfred Earl Akers told my dad, Donald Wayne Akers(67 now after a 5 way by pass) that his dad (George Franklin Akers) and his grandfather (George Washington Akers) and "all before that" ( maybe a slight exaggeration) all died at 72. My uncle Earl Eugene Akers passed away about 5 years ago at the age of 69. All died of heart failure due to hardening of the arteries. I am SOOO glad that most Akers enjoy robust health and longevity! They must be eating right! Thank you for such a generous input. Diana----to Live Long Akers
I must have missed something. My gr-grandfather, John Riley Akers, died in 1932 at the age of 89. My grandfather, James Henry Akers, died in 1969, at age 92. My father will turn 91 in May. If I follow suit I'll be around for another thirty years or so. Longevity in the Rappahannock-Essex family may have always been there but we don't have precise birth dates for William I and William II. William III, however, lived somewhere between 90 and 94 years. And while his older brother, Blackburn Akers, Sr only lived to 69 or 70, William IV died at about age 97. The third son of William III, John, died at about 65, though that is based on an estimated birth year, too. ===== Earl B. For those of you interested in the German or Dutch Ackers line there is a bunch of information at the Latter Days Saints on microfiche. This seems to be a totally different line so I do not have much of it in my files. There are probably errors and misspellings as well as things that are not capitalized mostly what we are going for here is a quick database showing which Akers were in NY when. (adjacent county, east of Hector; Ithaca is in Tompkins Co.), also called the Lake Country. Possibly all that land surrounding the Finger Lakes region was known as the "Lake Country." Interestingly enough, Phebe[6] Hart, daughter of Sarah[5] and Timothy[5] Hart (second cousins) married an Obadiah Akers, and they removed to that same Lake Country, with Timothy[5], Israel[6], Hulda[6] and her husband, and Joseph S.[6] and his wife.
