The 1860 census of Russell Co VA includes a James AKERS, age 25, medical student, in the household of Dr. Christian Easterly. I would appreciate any available informaation on this James; parents, siblings, spouse. Is he perhaps the son of James and Eliza Thompson AKERS? Thank you and best regards, Earl B. Akers, Sr. Puyallup WA The Banyan Tree
Hi Earl, No, I haven't been able to find anything else out about John Akers ( the g-grandfather of Nathan Webster Akers). If I do, I'll post it on this list. Thanks Cindy Mueller
There were 6 Akers on the Miller Cherokee Roll (Rejected). I assume some are on the accepted roll, but I do not have it. There were many people falsely rejected. Their applications, rejected or not, state their ancestry and why they feel they were of Cherokee descent. They were Cozettie (WV), Ella May (OK), Evea M. (WV), J. Riley (WV), Mary E. (WV), and Wm. Joe (GA). The table of contents of a new academic study of the roll is at http://members.aol.com/rarebk The site also has on-line the surname index of "Starr's Old Cherokee Families and Their Genealogy," a Cherokee Genealogy Tutorial which is a great primer on how to do effective Indian genealogy research, the 1835 Cherokee census which is within the tutorial, other indexes, and a Native American CD which appears to contain huge amounts of Native American genealogical material. Very fascinating. Steve ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! Try it today - there's no risk!
