3. Craig: I'm still assuming Almon was the son of Wm Akers s/o Jesse. I corresponded with the two people who had quiries on genforum regarding Almons. I'm playing the name game which may be the wrong approach. But my thinking is, if you were Almon Akers, and IF your mother died young, wouldn't you honor her by naming one or two children after her? The name game worked beautifully in my husband's line (Hawkins/Tomlinson). Male ancesters carried maiden name as their middle name even! I found a virtual gold mine with these two lines this summer. It's probably all coincidence regarding Francis A.'s in both lines. But at least contact has been made with that line just in case there's something to it. Almons were in Union County OH which is a little north and east of Butler County, OH. On Sat, 19 August 2000, CraigH9557@aol.com wrote: > > Ardie > > That seems like a good clue. 3. This is for all of those seeking parents of Almon Akers (b. @1825) of Adams County, IL: As a lark, I searched for the SURNAME of Almon to see if anything popped up, thinking Almon may have been named for his mother's side. One of the first names that came up was Francis A. Almon born 1800's (genforum). He also had a son named Albert Francis Almon. Our Almon Akers, of course named his first born daughter, Francis A. Akers. A few quiries show Almons were in VA>OH>IN>IL roughly the same time as our Akers. Interested in hearing from anyone else who may have pursued this avenue...or from anyone else who may think I'm way off track! _______________________________________________________________________ Free Unlimited Internet Access! 1. Blackburn AKERS, Sr. & John BISHOP, pre-1787, Montgomery Co VA
2. At some time before October 1787, in Montgomery Co. VA, Blackburn Akers, Sr. and John Bishop signed a note for 12 lb. 11 shillings to John Plank, witnesses Marthy Akers and Nancy Akers. Apparently the note was not satisfied when due and Mr. Plank took them to court. On 1787 October 1787, possbily as a result of the suit, Montgomery County Sheriff Walter Crockett was ordered to hold AKERS and BISHOP. My question is: Who was the witness Nancy Akers? Marthy was a daughter of Blackburn, Sr. but there are no daughters, granddaughters or daughters-in-law named Nancy at that time, that I'm aware of. Nancy Altizer Akers came much later. In 1786 Blackburn, Sr. had married Susannah Skaggs but considering the running time on the note (which I do not know but some of these suits went on for five years or more), the preparations and suit it seems possible that Nancy is the name of Blackburn, Sr.'s first wife, the presumptive daughter of John Blackburn. I'd appreciate any information on this, particularly dates. Best wishes, Earl B. Akers, Sr. Puyallup, WA The Banyan Tree

3. Greetings, If some of you get this twice I apologize. I have been saving notes from folks that mention similar names or locations to our Akers. Some of you have mentioned not being a part of the "Rootsweb West" list and I did not want to miss you! I am looking for any input on the following information. We have traced my wife's line back to Floyd Akers born in Floyd (Franklin ?) County, VA. Her line descends as follows: Floyd Akers (b. 1826) and Elizabeth Reed to Landon Akers (b. 1854) and Laura Jane Spencer to Clarinda Akers (b. 1902) and Paul Arthur West. My wife is the grandaughter of Clarinda. Our dilemma now is Floyd's parents. We suspect Floyd's father was Henry, (b.abt.1795) in Dillons Mill, Franklin County, VA. This is based solely on an 1830 census record for Henry that lists a child in his home under 5 years of age. I am speculating this is our Floyd (b. 1826). Additional information follows in a three generation genealogy report. Thanks for your time and any information you can provide. 3. Hi Earl...... Haven't made contact lately so seeing your post thought I would drop you aline. I don't have any new info for you but was wondering if William "Carroll" Akers is still living? He wrote to Virginia Sheldon at Wenatchee in 1992 and sent her alot of info. How is he related to you? Is he a great uncle? Hope this finds all well with you and yours and that you are having a great summer. I'm trying to master some of this internet but it is sure discouraging at times when you can't even get into what you think is a place with info. I did find several on SS death index, but not all. Good luck on your search and keep in touch. Deanna Cartmill ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! 1. Jonathan AKERS, abt 1768 - ? VA
2. Surnames: AKERS, HOWARD, CHAFFIN, REED Jonathan Akers, son of Blackburn Akers, Sr. and (Unknown) Blackburn, was born about 1768 in VA. On 25 Mar 1795 he married Hannah Howard, daughter of William Howard and Hannah Psalter in Montgomery Co VA. I have a note (without a source) that Jonathan died on 11 Dec 1827 in Montgomery Co VA. The 1810 census shows Jonathan with 2 WM under 10, 1 WM 10-16, himslf (26-45), 2 WF under 10, and 2 WF 10-16. Thus, Hannah is gone from the household. The 1820 census shows 4 WM under 10, 1 WM 10-16, Jonathan over 45, 3 WF 16-26, and 1 WF 26-45. Information I've collected from various sources indicates Jonathan married Rebecca Curnette Chaffin, widow of John Chaffin, the elder. She was the head of her household in the 1810 Montgomery Co. VA census with 2 WM under 10, 1 WF 10-16, and 1 WF 26-45, which is probably her. In 1840 Jonathan AND Rebecca Akers sold land near Little River to John Chaffin, probably her son. In June 1842 Rebecca alone sold land to Joseph Akers, possibly meaning Jonathan died 1840-1842 instead of the 1827 I have recorded. The latter transaction was witnessed by a Jonathan Akers, though. Rebecca's husband or a different person? It was also witnessed by James Akers, who married Sarah "Sally" Reed. On 10 Aug 1891 James Akers, a 76 year old widower, son of Jonathan and Rebecca Akers, married Nancy Lefflew, 60 year old widow, in a Floyd Co VA ceremony conducted by Humphrey Duncan. This would seem to mean that Jonathan and Rebecca were married after 1810 and before 1815. When did Jonathan die? When did Hannah Howard die? When did Jonathan and Rebecca marry? Who was the Jonathan who witnessed the 1842 land transaction? Any additional information would be very welcome! Best wishes, Earl B. Akers, Sr. Puyallup, WA The Banyan Tree

1. Thomas Blackburn Akers, Jr.
2. On 8 Oct 1823 Susannah Akers (d/o Valentine and Frances Branham Akers) appeared in Pike Co KY court with a bastardy claim against James Branham for a male child born 30 Apr 1823. In 1833 Thomas Blackburn Akers appeared in Floyd Co KY court to have Blackburn Akers, Jr., age 10 years, who resided with him, bound to him for training in the trade of farrier. I can't find any further reference to this Blackburn Akers, Jr. The elder Thomas Blackburn Akers married Keziah Meade on 24 Apr 1823 in Floyd Co. Susannah married Christopher Patton in Dec 1824 and I find only his children in their household. My theory is that the Junior was raised by Senior and his wife Keziah, that he was actually the son of Susannah and James Branham, and that he died some short time after the indenture, but I have no proof. Does anybody have more information about these events? Best wishes, Earl B. Akers, Sr. Puyallup WA The Banyan Tree
