Hi! I'm still trying to track down the Indiana Akers!!! With the help of aunts and "cousins" this is basically all the info I've been able to track down! I have some of the "in between" stuff - wives, husbands and kids, but I wanted to keep the size of this post down (somewhat...). Any and all help is appreciated!!! Ann, What was the name of your grandmother. I am researching an AKERS line that left VA and settled in MO. Many of these also settled in OK as well. I remember visiting some AKERS in Ada, OK as a child but I don't remember who they were, just that the family was an uncle and aunt of my father, or perhaps grandfather. I do know that a great uncle, William Walter Dolen Akers, served as a medic or physician in the War with Spain. He later lived in Tyrone, OK and owned either a pharmacy or doctor's office, W.D. Akers and Son. In my searching I came upon an article entitled "My Father the Investigator", by Audrey Bess Akers, in a publication called Dusty Trails. This woman's grandfather was a James A. Akers, b. 1835 in Franklin Co., VA who married Martha Ann Helen Owens, b. 1846 in Russell Co., VA. They married in Sullivan Co., TN and lived for a time in Washington Co., VA. James A. was a physician and moved his family to MO in 1885. A son, Arthur Cline AKERS, b. 1869 in VA married Lucy Alice Bell May 27, 1893. Their son, Luther Virgil Akers, known as Virgil, became a federal agent during the depression. The family lived in various places but one was El Reno, OK. Hope this rings some bells out there. It would be so helpful to those on the list if you would give some indication as to who your Akers are. Names, dates and location will assist us in knowing if we have a connection. Also, it is helpful if all communication is directed to the list. That is the reason for it. One never knows when a small clue will break down the wall. Thanks Suzanne My brick wall is: Is the father of John Burl Akers b 29 Sep 1845 in VA really John Bunker Akers and who is his mother? Selina or ??? Hi All, Have a question to throw out for any comments. It seems that most AKERS researchers are working on either NJ or Virginia. Is there anyone working on an AKERS family in Ohio around 1850 time period that would relate back to France? Looking for a William John AKERS married to a Jane Hall. Elise A.
