Thanks Craig for the info on the William Akers being researched. I will continue on my hunt for the "other" one. Elise A.
The william we are talking about is the son of Jesse Akers of NJ (we think) and was in Miami township of hamilton co. Ohio. then they removed to Adams co. IL (around 1835-40). Craig
Have been reading the exchange on a William AKERS of Ohio. Do either of you have a county location for the William Akers that you are tracking. We are looking for a William Akers of Belmont Co. or Harrison Co., Ohio. He was married to a Jane Hall of Belmont Co., Ohio in 1837. He had a son named William also. Any connection? Elise A.

Craig~ I believe that although Hector was part of Seneca County at the time, there are no deeds for Jesse here. I'll look under Acker again for you, and let you know. Hector is now part of Schuyler county. -----Original Message----- From: CraigH9557@aol.com <CraigH9557@aol.com> To: AKERS-L@rootsweb.com <AKERS-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Friday, July 20, 2001 5:13 PM Subject: Re: Jacob Acker,Seneca Co., NY >Jesse Akers and family were in Seneca Co. Joni -- Several decades earlier, there was a "Jacob am Acker" in the mostly German-speaking colony of Orangeburgh, South Carolina. He apparently immigrated with the first group of Swiss Protestants in about 1735. He occasionally appears in the records as Jacob Acker, although most of his family eventually took the Anglicized name Amacker, by which they are still known today across several southern states. It has occurred to me that my Thomas Akers of Louisiana (born c1770) may have been a descendant of Jacob am Acker. (Thomas is one of those ancestors who appears to have been beamed down by the little green men.) -- Mark James <tmark@geocities.com> --- "Joni L. Jesse Akers and family were in Seneca Co. NY between 1800-1820 approx. They were listed in the census for the town of Hector NY. I don't remember the name of the county at the moment. By 1820 they were in Hamilton co. OH. Craig Herron
I know that an Akers passed through Seneca County early; maybe this is he? Dr. W. G. Egle, state librarian of Pennsylvania in 1898, published "Egle's notes and queries". On a list of Pennsylvania-German settlers who arrived in Fayette township, Seneca County, New York between 1800 and 1810 appears the name of Jacob Acker. Family members' names do not appear, only the head of the family. I have looked in Seneca County deeds, and no Akerses appear. ~Joni

I know the relationships of these Akers women but would like to find any relationship the Terry men they married had with one another. Susan Akers was born abt 1815-1817 in Montgomery Co. VA. Her parents were Jacob Akers and Ruth Howard, or possibly Catherine Rupe. (I need to establish her date of birth to determine which of Jacob's wives is her mother). She and Thomas Winters Terry were married 26 Aug 1837 (date of bond) in Montgomery Co. VA. She was buried at Jacob Akers farm on Pellam's Br., Mill Creek, New River, Montgomery Co VA. Thomas Winters Terry was born 13 Sep 1805 in Montgomery Co VA and died in Montgomery Co IN on 4 Sep 1877. Sarah Akers was born about 1819 in Grayson Co KY, daughter of Jonathan Akers and Sarah Cole. She and John S. Terry were married in Grayson Co KY but I don't have dates. John was born about 1808 in KY. I have five children listed for them: William, Elizabeth, Aaron, Adaline and Abigale. Barbara Akers was born 9 Nov 1815, probably in Hardin Co KY. She was the daughter of Josiah Akers and Sarah "Sally" Garrett. She married Josiah L. Terry on 29 Aug 1833, probably in Hardin Co. KY. Barbara died 24 Aug 1869 in Hardin Co KY and is buried in White Mills Cem., Hardin Co KY. Josiah Terry was born about 1810 and died about 1897. Thomas Winters Terry was the son of Aaron Burr Terry and Mary Elizabeth Winters. They were married in Montgomery Co VA in 1804. Mary Elizabeth died abt 1832 in Hardin Co KY. Are John and Josiah also their sons? Thanks for any assistance, Earl Earl B. Akers, Sr. Puyallup WA The Banyan Tree
Hi, Arlene~ This must be William's son William? That's VERY interesting that he says that he was born in Ohio ca 1812. As I recall, wasn't his father already in Illinois then? Or maybe just after that? Does he also report where his parents were born? That would be fabulous! Hope you're doing well~Joni -----Original Message----- From: Arlene Hetchler <ahetch@yahoo.com> To: AKERS-L@rootsweb.com <AKERS-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Saturday, July 07, 2001 3:50 PM Subject: WILLIAM AKERS >Joni and All, >I have recently found William in the 1880 census. In 1816 a tract of land straddling the Cumberland-Buckingham Cos. VA line was sold by Nathaniel, Samuel and Mary Brown to John Akers of Patrick Co. VA, the son of William E. Akers IV of Franklin Co. VA. John's wife was Sarah Brown. Nathaniel and Samuel were sons of Robert Brown, Sarah was his daughter. Who is Mary Brown? I have the mother of Sarah as Lucy (unk) Brown. Thank you, Earl B.
