Good evening This is my first posting to the List and I would appreciate any information you may have to offer. I have recently started to search for my sister's husband's family. If the following is known to anyone do please write. Cyril Arthur Akers (or Brown Akers) b. July 1912 Wandsworth London England s/o Keneel Brown Akers and Ursula Harriet (maiden name unknown) Cyril had one sister who did not marry - name unknown. I have nothing to offer in return as far as ancestry is concerned but lots of information on Cyril's wife, Edna May Slogrove, should this be useful. Thank you. Vickie Slogrove slogrove@shaw.ca

Joni Thank you very much. I did not have that information. All I had was the 1810 census listing for Jesse in Hector NY. That info should prove useful. Thanks again Craig Herron check out my short movie at www.afallfromtheclouds.com
Hi~ I meant to look this up for a long time, and finally did today. I found two listings for Ackers, no Akers. Jacob Acker is from what I read in the deed itself actually named "Ackler", He sold a piece of land in Mindon, which is now part of Monroe co. It was part of the military tract, but not a grant to Jacob. The second and best is the deed in which Jesse Akers, "Acker" in the index but not in the deed itself, and his wife Martha sell a piece of property in Hector, Seneca Co. (today in Schuyler Co.) on Nov. 3, 1815, to Dennis Turner of Dutchess Co. for $600. In the deed there is no mention of where or when they got the land, nor where they live. There are also no earlier deeds in which they show up; this is it. The deeds begin in 1804. The lot in question is no. 28, in the town of Hector. The only interesting clue that I saw was that one of the markers given for the measuring off of the piece of land was an "ironwood" marked "1809". This was in Liber I, p. 234. Craig, if you're still pursuing this, I hope that this isn't just repetition? If so, I hope that it finds you well.~Joni

Karen - Thank you for the website. I'm really not sure now if the Evoney/Exoney/Oney Akers I found on the census with Fleming and Nancy is the right one. According to Earl's site, and a couple of others, this particular gal married a George Connor, but, at the same time, it says this particular man died in 1881, so, it's entirely possible that she remarried, only problem with that theory is that in 1900, William Compton and Oney have a daughter Minnie who was born in 1878. I checked for George in 1880 thinking perhaps Minnie was the child of that marriage, no such luck, I'm really beginning to think I've got the wrong parents here. I get the feeling that I'm going to have to tell my friend that we are going to have to get either Oney's obit. or death record from VA. You wouldn't happen to know a kind soul in Tazewell County who would be willing to go digging for either for her, do you? Any advice or determination that I have the wrong parents is more than welcome! Hi all - I'm new to this list, and am wondering if anyone can help me with the following: I'm trying to help a friend locate the parents of her ggrandmother (not sure how many greats). Her name is Oney Akers, she was born 11/9/1846/7 and died 7/14/1911. She was married to William Compton, b. 12/25/1845, d. 7/31/1913. He was the son of Joseph and Nancy (Shannon) Compton and was from Tazewell County, VA. I believe that Oney, or Evoney, or Exoney's parents were Fleming and Nancy (Akers) Akers. Fleming, b. 1801 and Nancy b. 1805. I'm not sure who Fleming's parents were, I've seen references to them being the following: John "Bunker" Akers, b. 1758 and Mary Anne (Jeffs/Jeffries), b. 1764. Austin Akers, b. 1764 and Rhoda (Thompson), b. 1767. Stephen Akers, dates unknown, spouse unknown. I believe I found "Oney" in 1850 Patrick County at the age of 4 with her parents listed and Fleming and Nancy. She is listed as Evoney on that census. I believe I then find her with her mother Nancy in 1860 in Tazewell County, Fleming has passed by then, and she is listed as Oney. In 1900, I find her with her husband, William Compton and she goes by the name of Charlotte. I believe the following are her siblings: Creed Malvinia Sarah A. Calorn Sarena E. Mary S. Suella Amanda J. Fleming Adaline Samuel N. I would greatly appreciate it if there is someone who is able to determine the accuracy of what I have uncovered, I don't want to tell my friend I have the parents for her, if I'm wrong! Thank you for your time. Take care - Deb
Elise, I just found this maessage and because I am old and forgetful I don't know if I answered it. My William was probably born about 1795 in Ohio. He died in Shawneetown, Illinois 1841 with grown children. Have you seen any connections? Arlene Hetchler Arizona __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
