Ken, I have seen a few sites on Rootsweb that list Ned as a son of Elijah. I have the obit for Elijah Akers written by his children and it does not mention a "Ned". Most of the sites that list the children for Elijah and Cynthia Jane Akers list 13 children. None of these have a "Ned" Thanks, ruagore@msn.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ken Akers" <kenakers@worldnet.att.net> To: <AKERS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 13, 2005 8:10 PM Subject: Re: Akers from Floyd and Pike Co Ky >A websites on Rootsweb lists Ned's lineage as: > NED9 AKERS (ELIJAH E.8, LEVI7, DAVID DANIEL6, VALENTINE5, BLACKBURN4, > WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2, WILLIAM1) He married NETTIE ELAM. James, I see a Ned Akers with wife Nettie in 1930 Census of Pike County, KY. They have been married about two years at this stage and are the parents of Eugene Akers. This Ned Akers was born about 1895 and appears to be son of Harry and Cosby Akers. They were living in Floyd County, KY 1900. Other than Ned, their children were: Luemma, Laura, Andrew and Frank. There is a death record for Ned 6/6/1963 in Floyd Co which lists his age as 69 which is close to the 1895 date. What confused me is your statement he was born in 1869 (which is a bit old for a man to be having children in the 1930s ?). And you said he died Pike Co. This same Harry can be found living with his Grandmother, Dolly Akers in 1880 Pike Co, KY. I didn't look any further because I'm not sure this is your family given your stmt about 1869 and Pike Co for place of death. Hello, I'm new to the list. My great-grandmother was Esther Akers Burnett (b. 1871 in Washington County, VA). She was one of the younger members of her father's large family (#16 out of 17!) and the daughter of William Akers (b. 1816 in Franklin County, VA). Several of his children from first wife moved to Lawrence County, OH while those of the second appeared to stay around Bristol, TN/VA. Between Washington County, VA and Franklin County, William was in Smyth and Russell Counties of VA and it appears his father MIGHT have been John H. Akers. I am a new member to the list. I am searching for information on Emma Mae Akers born about 1894 in Kentucky.. I do not know if the Akers is a maiden name or a married name. I first find her listed as Ema Akers in 1920 Scioto Co., Ohio census at 27yr. born in Kentucky and both parents born in Kentucky. She is living with Samuel H. Roe and his wife Dora. Also with Ema is her three sons Bernie (Bernard) age 5yr.; Willard age 4yr. and Robert age 1yr. (all with the surname of Akers) I find her in 1930 in Jefferson Co., Indiana listed as Samuel Roe's wife (and using the name Mae) and the three boys are listed as Roe rather than Akers. The family also has a new son James Edward. Does anyone have any information on this Emma Mae Akers? I would appreciate anything at all to unravel this puzzle. I can not find a marriage record for Samuel and Mae so don't have a marriage date but it would be between 1920 and 1930. I found a Emma Akers in Johnson Co., Kentucky born in 1894 but don't know if the two women are the same or if there is two or more EmmaEmma Akers. I would be very grateful for any clues at all concerning this Emma. Thank you, Carleene Roe

Hi, Some of you may know me from other lists and under other names. My name is Jeanne Howell and I have been researching my family history on and off since about 1991. I started researching because of the tremendous loss I felt when my paternal grandmother died and I found out...much to my surprise...that not a lot of information was known by my family about her side of the family. I realized this at the funeral and at the wake when people I didn't even know came up to me and introduced themselves as my cousins and great uncles and great aunts. So I started looking into how to find out more about her and thus connect in even a little way with who she was and her family. About this time frame, I was in 9th grade and one of my English teachers made us do a report on one of our hobbies. Searching for something interesting that others wouldn't think of...reading, computers, and camping just didn't seem interesting enough...I found a book on Genealogy...Needless to say. I got hooked and have been searching ever since. Unfortunately lately I have been battling Chronic Ulcerative Colitis and Sciatic nerve problems and I have had to cut back on active researching. I figured it was a good time to start typing up a webpage for what research I had done or had found with the help of others. This need was compounded by the loss of a dear but distant cousin of mine, Earl Akers. I realized that there was a possiblity that what I had done could be lost and how much time that I had put into finding it would have been in vain. Therefore I have been typing up my information on each of my surnames and putting them on my page at rootsweb.com. The address of this site is: _http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~elyandra/index.html_ (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~elyandra/index.html) The main purpose that I started doing this was to pass on what I could to further generations of researchers. Even though I have been severely hampered in my efforts to do research and to travel to different sites by my Ulcerative Colitis and my sciatic nerve problems, someone should be able to benefit from what I have accumulated. Even if it is only just to sort of give them a sort of Jump off point. Another reason behind this is the fact that I noticed when I tried to put into the report the sources that most of my research has either basis in secondary (books) or what I like to call tertiary sources (correspondence). Therefore I have joined this list to try to help others with the various resources at my disposal and maybe find more documentation of my own lines. My direct Akers / Acres line is as follows: 1. Valentine Akers m. Frances Branham 2. Thomas Blackburn Akers m. Keziah Meade 3. Robert N. Akers m. Nancy Rebecca Porter 4. John C. Akers m. Lucinda Davis 5. Albert Lee Akers m. Elon Octavia Burchett 6. Nancy Louisa Akers m. William Halsey Howell 7. my father 8. me

Please fell free to email me with any corrections or if you have any ideas that would improve this site. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did creating it. I have a picture of Lottie Akers, wife of Cyrus Alonzo Akers that I picked up yesterday at an antique store. Taken by J. E. Harrod in Indianapolis. Return to anyone who wants for $3 plus postage. Amazing how much they are charging for old pictures that people threw away and they cost the same for unnamed ones. This is probably in her 20s. Jerilyn
I would like to have this chart also. Thank you for the offer. Steve Akers
