I've been asking my mom for some of the old info but she likes keeping those old ghost in the closet. I can remember Aunt Hazel. I don't find alot of info either. I have pictures of your grandmother too. Besides Carl, there was Betty (Boots) Barbara, Fred, Herbert and Katherine, my mom. Uncle Butch (Carl) and my mom are the only ones left. I knew that your grandmother was born before she married Albert, December 24, 1921. I didn't know about the Burton part until I asked my mom just the other day. Interesting stuff. Where do you live now? HOw old are you? I would like to know more about your part of the family. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: trystanscott1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.akers/735.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: my grandmother was Hazel, she passed away some years ago, that is when we lost all contact with this side of the family. The name Burton appears on Hazel's birth certifact, listing Myrtle as her mother and a E.E. Burton as the father, from research I have done E.E. is Elmer Burton, whom worked at the same factory that Peter did, Elmer has a obit in the paper the same day that Hazel was born so no details as to whom he was. I know that Myrtle was born in 1903 and died in 1986, she married Albert Akers in Dec 1921 (oddly same year Hazel is born).. Hazel appears in the 1930 census records as Hazel Burton - grand-daughter of Peter which fits into her description of not living at home for most of her childhood. I remember traveling to see her in 1984 or 1985, and then again going to Ohio in 1986 when she passed away.. I was young then so have little memories of seeing her other then she was very old at the time.. and her son Carl "Butch" was living with her. I have a few photographs that people have sent me over the years in doing this research be willing to send them along. If you want any more details send me an email at trystanscott@comcast.net Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I do still have the pension file and it has been gathering dust for almost three years now. I even got it loop bound to make sure I didn't lose any of the pages. I re-read my original post and it could be interpreted that I wanted to sell this. I don't. I would be happy to give this to any decendant interested in having it. If there is a descendant of this Burrell Akers (& be careful there are at least three of them that found in the Civil War), get in contact with me and it's yours. Author: eamitchco Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.akers/1254.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: That's true. Tolbert Akers did marry Mary Sturgeon Hall, but Tolbert was not the father of Hiram, according to the stories I've heard from different sources over the years. Mary left Virginia with her young son and married Tolbert later. He adopted Hiram who took the Akers name. We need a male descendant of Hiram to volunteer for a yDNA test that we can enter into a DNA project to try and find a match and determine his family line. Otherwise we're at a dead end. 1. [AKERS] Hiram Akers - Floyd County, Ky (born Va 1828)
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: eamitchco Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.akers/1254/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hiram Akers of Floyd County Kentucky is my gr-gr grandfather. He married Nancy Frasure in 1856 and had a bunch of kids, including my great-grandmother Martha Akers. The big mystery in my research is the father of Hiram Akers. Who is he? Where was he from? Nobody knows. There is speculation that he may be a Berry, but I have never seen any documentation to prove that or even seen any solid clues to indicate why Berry is a possibility. We know Hiram was born in Virginia, but where in Virginia? If anyone has any new information, please let me know. I'm stumped! Another possibility for solving this mystery is DNA testing. I've done it and it's very easy. It could hold the key for finding Hiram's father. My results will not work for the Akers line. We need a male, straight line descendant of Hiram Akers to provide a yDNA sample with a simple cheek scrape to FamilyTree DNA. We're talking someone whose father's father's father goes straight back to Hiram along the male Akers line with the Akers surname. Any volunteers? Please let me know. If you have any questions, pass them along. This may be our only chance to knock down this brick wall, and there is still a possibility it may not answer the big question of Hiram Akers' father. Thanks Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you would like to reply to them, please click on the Message Board URL link above and respond on the board.

    1. [AKERS] Akers Names on Descendents List
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Lairdgenealogy Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.akers/1253/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The following names which may be of interest to this board are found on the listing of descendents of Richard Gilpin and Mary Bortree. NAME m SPOUSE Akers, Arthur m Hazelton, Daisy Akers, Clotilda Akers, David Akers, Frances Akers, Howard Akers, Jessa Akers, Kenneth Akers, Leonard m Hazelton, Ella Akers, Marvin m Rock, Ellen Akers, Ralph Akers, Rex A genealogy listing all of the descendants of Richard Gilpin and Mary Bortree was prepared by the Gilpin Family Reunion in 1927. Richard and Mary emigrated from Ireland in 1809 and settled in North East Pennsylvania in Wayne County. The information on their 1,135 descendants, born before 1927, and their spouses consists mostly of names and shows the relationships. The only date included is, if they died before 1927 that is indicated. In most branches there are six generations shown and some branches have part of the seventh although many in those generations do not yet have spouses. The genealogy is posted on the Greene-Dreher Historical Society web site Family Tree pages and the direct link is: http://www.greenehs.org/familypage.html There are four documents posted. The first is a two page introduction explaining the background of the information. Next is a 21 page alphabetical index that lists all the names alphabetically and shows spouses names. Then there are two versions of the genealogical list that both contain the same information but present it in different formats, one is 26 pages and the other is 27 pages. If you can add more information or extend any of these family lines please make it known so this genealogy can grow. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
