My Grandfather Carl Steven Akers born in 1892 Akersville PA, his father James S AKers and Mother Jennie M Plessinger, they also had a daughter Maude Akers...which she had a son Fred Akers, and that is whom I am trying to find out more about, actually, hoping for more on Maude also, my Gradfather's sister. Pictures of her and her son Fred? I have a letter she wrote to my Grandfather dated 1927 and it is so sad how she writes how all alone she is and her son. Hoping someone out there knows something more. thanks Penni Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. Re: [AKERS] Hiram Akers -- DNA candidate -- male Akers descendant
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: emitchco Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.akers/1261.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thanks David. The problem is Hiram Akers natural father is unknown. Tolbert Akers reportedly adopted him after he married Hiram's mother Mary. Supposedly, a man named Berry fathered Hiram, but I have never seen any proof of that or even a clue. To solve this mystery, I believe the next step is to find a direct male Hiram Akers descendant to take a DNA test that we can compare with other results to see if he matches an Akers? Berry? or some other family. it has to be a father's father's father's type descent along the male line. I've done my testing through FamilyTree DNA. It's a simple cheek swab and only checks the male Y chromosone, which passes virtually unchanged from father to son for generations. There are several levels of testing and each step up is about $100. We could find a match right off the bat, or it could take several tries, or we may come up empty. But this is the latest cutting edge way to at least make progress on these brick walls, where documentation has! been impossible to find. Are you related to Hiram? By the way, it would also be great if we could get a male descendant of Tolbert also to confirm for sure that Hiram is not his natural son. 1. [AKERS] Hiram Akers -- DNA candidate -- male Akers descendant
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: emitchco Surnames: Akers Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.akers/1261/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hiram Akers of Floyd County Kentucky is my gr-gr grandfather. He married Nancy Frasure in 1856 and had a bunch of kids, including my great-grandmother Martha Akers. The big mystery in my research is the father of Hiram Akers. Who is he? Where was he from? Nobody knows. There is speculation that he may be a Berry, but I have never seen any documentation to prove that or even seen any solid clues to indicate why Berry is a possibility. We know Hiram was born in Virginia, but where in Virginia? If anyone has any new information, please let me know. I'm stumped! Another possibility for solving this mystery is DNA testing. I've done it and it's very easy. It could hold the key for finding Hiram's father. My results will not work for the Akers line. We need a male, straight line descendant of Hiram Akers to provide a yDNA sample with a simple cheek scrape to FamilyTree DNA. We're talking someone whose father's father's father goes straight back to Hiram along the male Akers line with the Akers surname. Any volunteers? Please let me know. If you have any questions, pass them along. This may be our only chance to knock down this brick wall, and there is still a possibility it may not answer the big question of Hiram Akers' father. Flynn - 17 Mar 1950, they had two children, Jackie and Bev, they were married up till John died of cancer in July 1982. Hazel worked for Boeing for a good part of her life, the factory was not all that far from the family house. According to her own stories, she was not "accepted" by Mrytle after she was born, she was moved between two foster families (Pratter and McMillion) till she settled was placed with her grandfather Peter Brest. Exactly why she moved from Western PA to Eastern PA is unknown. She lived in the same house for most of her life, in 1990 she went to California for a short time, but developed cancer of the stomach and asked to return back to Pennsylvania.. she lived with my mother and myself right up to the end. I have checked with Burton researcher whom was researching Elsie Brest (Mrytle's sister) and she noted Elmer E. Burton son of Asa Burton of Youngtown Ohio, he was injuried at the powder mill where Peter worked as a truck driver. Elmer was hospitalized for some time and became very ill, finally dying he was buried in Belmont Park Cemetery, Youngstown Ohio That is about where my records break down, I have details on most of Myrtles brothers and sisters.. including a photo taken in California of all Peter's children.
