Maurice Vane Akers, Jr., 67, died in Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton, West Virginia. Born 14 May 1932, in Arista, West Virginia, he was the son of Maurice V. Akers, Sr. of Arista and the late Stella M. Semenske Akers. He was a retired coal miner from Eastern Associated Coal Co. in Herndon, West Virginia. He was the Pastor of Hiawatha Baptist Church and former Pastor of the Eleventh Hour Baptist Church. He was a member of United Mine Workers Association Local 9781 and enjoying hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Shelby Jean Akers. Additional survivors include his wife of 22 years, Nancy Carol Ball Akers; one daughter, Melissa Dane Arnold and her husband Joshua of Matoaka; three sons, Daniel Wayne Akers, Sr. and wife Beth of Geneva, Florida, Allen Akers and his wife Latonya of Matoaka and Tony Akers and his wife Sharon of Pipestem, West Virginia; five grandchildren, Daniel Wayne Aker! s Jr., Michael Wayne Akers, Christopher Allen Akers, Anthony Weldon Akers, and Miranda Danielle Akers; and one great-granddaughter, Haley Danielle Akers; one brother, Jimmy Akers and his wife Helen of Lashmeet, West Virginia; three sisters, Dorothy Garrison of Arista, Betty Bare and her husband Charles of East Brunswick, New Jersey and Brenda Grubb of Rising Sun, Maryland; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton, West Virginia. Burial followed in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. We think it was greene and my dad her grandson says that she claimed to be related to Nathaniel Greene the civil war hero. I have newspaper copies of his death that occured in San Lorenzo, Mexico due to the fact that he and two others went to Mexico to return cattle stolen from a ranch that they worked at.     3. Lois Sarver Akers, 76, of Cocoa, FL (formerly of Blacksburg VA, died June 18, 2008, after a battle with lung cancer. Lois was born in Montgomery County, VA on September 18, 1931 to the late John Sarver and Amy Lee Hughes Sarver. In addition to her parents, Lois was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon Cragett and a brother, Roy Sarver. Surviving Lois are daughters, Greta Faye Hardy and husband, John, and Rose Lee Gragett, all of Cocoa, Fla.; and a brother, Bill Sarver and wife Maxine of Charlottesville, Va. She is survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Many cousins, other relatives and friends in the Blacksburg area also survive. Funeral and burial services were held in Cocoa on June 21, 2008. I have no genealogical connections with the deceased. This has been posted solely for genealogical reasons.
