    1. Re: [AKERS] AKERS Family Photograph
    2. I have an Akers relative who migrated to Oregon from Missouri. His name was William Madison Akers.? His wife was Susan Ison.? Children included Anna, William Jefferson, and? John Wesley.? Claude Akers was either a son or grandson.? My desktop has died and most of my info is on it.? They lived in Baker County, Oregon. I don't know if this is the same family or not. But if it is, I would at least like to have a scanned copy of the photo. Thank you. Doris Rayburn -----Original Message----- From: Shelley Cardiel <cardiels@comcast.net> To: AKERS@rootsweb.com Sent: Sun, Sep 20, 2009 1:00 pm Subject: [AKERS] AKERS Family Photograph I've "rescued" an old photograph belonging to the AKERS Family of Oregon. The photograph was taken at the Potter Studio in Portland, Oregon, likely taken in the 1890's the infant in the photograph is identified as "Thomas" or "Frances" AKERS born 1898. The handwriting in very poor so it is difficult to read, though it appears that someone first wrote the name "Richard" and then crossed that name out and replaced it. Makes me wonder if "Richard" is a brother to this baby and the person identifying the photograph was confused as to which one it was in the photograph. I am hoping to locate someone from this AKERS Family who can identify the photograph as one of their own. I'd like to see it returned to its right place, with family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Author: davidakers78 Surnames: Akers Classification: immigration Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.akers/783.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: James: I cant answer your question but could make a couple of comments. First of all, William was a quaker. So I have made some effort toward locating their records which could possibly help. William initally settled in Hunterdon, N. J. ---The English kept some records known as permission to go abroad which I never located. - - Between 1538 and 1837 the church of England kept parish records covering baptism, marriages, and burials (mostly of members).-----Starting in 1837 the English government kept records of births, deaths, and marriages. A promising source which I have not investigated is the Somerset House, London England (records of marriages, deaths, and births). A very thorough study of the William Akers family in new england states was made by Michael Scott Caldwell. His website has been removed from the internet and I have lost contact with him.- - - Hope that this will keep you from having to reinvent the wheel and give you a better start. I've been researching Carroll Thomas and found him in an 1850 census in Kentucky with John and Elizabeth Acres and siblings James, Julia and Nancy. He then appears in 1860 with his sister Julia and wife Belinda Shroyer (called Malinda in census). Then, strangely, I have him married in 1861 to Lucinda Caroline Radcliff. But I haven't found divorce or death for Belinda, so I'm not sure what happened. Last seen in 1880 in Taney county, Missouri and I've found death references in 1884 and 1887 for Carroll and Lucinda, but not yet where the cemeteries are located.
