He was active in local civic organizations, retiring from his position as lumber company president in 1944." I found this newspaper clipping in with some family information at my grandmother's house. There was a Grace Abbott (daughter of Dr. James K. Abbott) who married an Ainsworth, probably in New York. I'm trying to find out if there is a connection here. I'm not sure what area of New York or even if it is New York State, but since the Abbott family I'm researching is found in the central NY area, that's where I'm trying first.
