    1. Re: Conecuh Co., AL, Leon Co., TX, Palo Pinto Co., TX
    2. Thank you Barbara for your answer. I wonder if anyone else on the list knows more about Caswell's children. Hainsworth had 3 males under 5, 1 male 5-10, 1 male 15-20, 1 male 20-30, 1 male 40-50, 1 female 20-30, 1 female 30-40, 30 slaves. Since Mary Ann would have been 4 at the time of that census, she doesn't appear to have been with the family of James P. If you are referring to the James Preston Ainsworth who was in Leon Co. with Joab, he is Joab's son and was born in 1829 in AL. Joab was in Butler Co., AL in the 1820 census but at the time he had 2 males under five. However, Caswell according to the 1830 Butler Co., AL census had a daughter under the age of five who has never been identified. All of Richard Nathaniel's children have been identified and the Levin who was in Butler Co. in 1830 had no children at that time. From all of this, I think that there is a high probability that your Mary Ann is the oldest daughter of Caswell & Rebecca Ann Sellers Ainsworth. The one thing that could be a problem with this theory is that from the 1860 census, Rebecca was born about 1816. I know that they had children young but 10 seems a little too young. Since I've never seen a marriage record on them, maybe Rebecca was not Caswell's first wife. There is a 16 year age difference between Caswell and Rebecca. Have you ever seen the following family that was on the 1850 Butler Co., AL Census? John Ainsworth, 73, b. NC Martha Ainsworth, 69, b. NC Matilda Ainsworth, 14, b. AL I don't know if anyone has ever tried to trace this John but he's got to be related to our other Ainsworths in the area. Since Conecuh and Butler are next door to each other, it would not be unreasonable to think that Mary Ann may have come from one of these Butler Co. Ainsworth families. John & Martha seem to old to be parents of Matilda. It would be interesting to see how they fit into the picture.
