I am looking for information on John and Sarah Ainsworth of the Chorley area. John and Sarah had 17 children, all with biblical names. I think John was born around 1838 and died around 1905 in England. I think Sarah died around 1906 in England. The only children that I know for sure that came to North America were Thomas and Enoch (my grandfather).Enoch stowed away on a cattle boat and was let off in Canada around 1874 or so. Enoch meets up with brother Tom in Fall River, Mass. around 1880.The other known names are :Richard, Rebecca, Sarah, John (killed by a lorry), Caleb, Lillian, and Joshua. Caleb had a daughter Katherine. Tom married a Maggie and had children Charles and Nellie. Enoch and Dorothea (Jenny) Hersey of New Brunswick, Canada had for children: Charles(1894-1972), Agnes (1897-1899), Sylvester Byron (1/31/1900-2/23/1982), Archie (1904-1950), Marion Dorothea (5/1/1907-6/20/1982), and Royal Alfred(3/12/1892- ?). Enoch and Dorothea seemed to have their children in ei! ther Mass. or Vt.The only other infor I have on John and Sarah is that they owned a farm, store, and quite a few houses. Any info would be greatly appreciated, as all I have, basically, is their names.
I am so happy to hear from you and glad to finnally find a family connection. Thanks for your reply. Judy

Emanuel Ainsworth and Betty Blakeney had a daughter by the name of Mary Elizabeth. In 1870 Smith County Census she was 9 years old. Could this be your greatgrandmother?
Hi Rae, I believe that your Betty is Mary Elizabeth Ainsworth, b. abt 1861, m. Matthew Emanuel Russell Jr. with the following children: James Wiley, Manuel, Virgil, Almeda, Daisy and Puny. I think that her parents as James Livingston Ainsworth, b. January 1829, Smith Co., MS, d. aft 1910, Smith Co., MS. and Malinda Elizabeth Peoples, b. abt. 1831 in MS. Her siblings were Caroline b. 1854, m. Alfred T. Blakeney; John, b. November 7, 1855, m. Mary A. Norris; and James M., b. marh 13, 1858, m. Mary Matilda Duckworth. James Livingston's parents were Sampson Jeffery (Jefferson) Ainsworth and Anna Jones. Sampson's parents were Thomas Hainsworth (Ainsworth) and Sarah Finch. Thomas's parents have never been positively identified although there is a lot of speculation. He is believed to be a grandson or great grandson of William Ainsworth and Jennet (possibly Patteson) who first show up in Accomack Co., VA court records abt 1836 in which they testify that although they are legal heirs of William Patterson, they will not dispute the distribution of his estate according to his will. William Ainsworth left a will in Cumberland Co., NC in 1759 in which he names his wife, Jennet, and his sons, James Patterson, William Jr., and Levin. Thomas is most likely descended from one of these three men. If you would like a copy of my file on the descendants of Thomas, e-mail me. I am looking for info on my greatgrandmother, Elizabeth (Betty) Ainsworth, born November 6, 1860 in Mississippi. She married Matthew A. Russell and lived in Smith County, MS. and was listed on the 1900 census there with her 5 children, one of whom was my grandfather, James Nathan ( I know him as James Wiley) Russell. My greatgrandfather Matthew Russell, was ambushed and murdered on October 5, 1898, and is buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, there, so was not listed on the 1900 census with her. She later moved to New Orleans, La. and then to Bush, La., with her entire family, and is buried in Grantham Cemetery, in Bush, La., next to my grandfather James and grandmother Lillie Magnolia Holifield Russell. If anyone can find any info on Elizabeth Ainsworth Russell and her family, I would appreciate it very much. Thanks, Rae

Dear Carol, I just received a reply to my message board posing back in May of 2000 and replyed. I decided to look through some of the other postings and noticed you responded to me over a year ago. I never was informed by Ancestry .com at all and would like to appologize for not getting in touch with you. If you are still interested in trying to match some things e-mail me at: jctaains@prodigy.net. Sorry again and thanks. John Ainsworth
Dear Guy, It depends on if you know the area your family originally came from. There are a lot of Ainsworths in the Darwen area, which is where my family is from, Lancshire County. If you know any of your relatives names and dates I can check my info. I have tried to find information about the Ainsworths through Ainsworths in England and have had no success. I quess they really dont care if they have a relative in the USA. Sincerely, John Ainsworth
I also received your e-mail and have responded to that. I have a lot of info. I think the James you are talking about is not the James you spoke of, however it could be a son or grandson. I have alot of info, so I will wait to hear from you. Sincerely, John Ainsworth
I am also related to James Ainsworth of Pinfold, he is my 4x gt grandfather. Please get in touch and maybe we can exchange info. Marie
