Many thanks for the info about Padiham's whereabouts. I live in the Pacific Northwest of the States and know nothing about where places are located in England. With regards to your Ainsworths, I don't believe they are in my own family line; however, with the remaining time I have for my Ancestry subscription, I could maybe try and see what I could come up with for them. Blessings on your research! Linda

My gg Grandfather had a brother Hiram b 1875 in Newton-le-willows. Given my family's penchant for calling their first-born son after grandfather. Your Hiram could be my ggg grandfather. In which case he would have come from the St Helens/Warrington/Newton area of Lancashire.

My Paternal Grandmother was Amy (b 1908 Castleford, Yorks.) whose father was jesse (b 1877 Castleford). His father was a John (b.1853 Newton-le Willows, Lancs. Haven't got any further back than that on that line, so I'd be grateful if either of you turn anything up, if you'd let me know. For the record, since neither of you mention it in your posts, Padiham is near Burnley in Lancs, and the Ainsworth name is far more prevalent on that side of the Pennines than in Yorkshire. There is a village called Ainsworth just outside Bury.

John was the son of Preston Potts Ainsworth & Mary Ann Harper. Preston was the son of Levin A. Ainsworth & his first wife whose name is unknown. Levin A. was the brother of my 3rd great grandfather. They were born in Chesterfield Co., SC. The family moved to Christian Co., KY about 1808 and about 1818, Levin A., James and their other brothers moved to MS. Levin moved his family to Trinity Co., TX in the early 1840's. For many years, I believed that they were the sons of Levin Ainsworth Jr. and Nancy Welch. I have now found evidence that they were the sons of Joseph Hainsworth who I believe was a brother of Levin Jr. I am sure that their mother's name was Nancy (possible maiden name Welch). Contact me at bemmont@attbi.com if you would like more details. Barbara

Ainsworth who was a son of Asberry Sebastian Ainsworth & Rachel Collins. The problem is that this John was supposed to have died in 1853 at the age of 20. I have two different birthyears for Hiram - 1854 and 1860. If 1854 is correct, then it would be possible for him to be the son of this John. Did one of Hiram and Cora's sons go by the nickname of Russian?
