Thank you Tarney for sending the Joel Ailes info to MyFAMILY. You don't know how much it meant to me. I have been intrigued by Joel and Francis/ Fanny for such a long time. Thank you for taking the ball and running with it. I wish these docs. had the name of their son..... But no........ that would have been too easy. Just means that some of us have to get off of our [email protected]##$ and look some more. Hi Sandra, I'll continue to search for documentation. I spend so much time looking at microfilmed records that are about two hundred years old that I din't think of a posting two weeks ago as old. I'll take under consideration your advice as to how I should spend my time researching. Now, I need help with thinking about something. I'm puzzled by the 1830 and 1840 Federal census. On the 1830 census the Walker Aills household lists: two males 5-10 years of age, one is William, b. 1822, the other is Martin,b. 1824 one male 30-40, that would be Walker (father) two females under 5, one is Ackland b.1828; the other female is Martha b.1834 one female 30-40 this would be Martha (mother) The 1840 Census: three males under 5, George b in 1834 is one of the males, who are the other two? two males 15-20, William and Martin one male 40-50 Walker (father) two females 5-10, one is Martha b. 1832, who is the other female? one female 10-15, this would be Ackland one female 4-50, this is Martha (mother) By the time Walker got to Union County, AR, he had five children with him. William was married and stayed in MS. The children listed on the 1850 Federal census are: Martin, Ackland, Martha, and George. Mary Jane was not on the 1850 census. Do we know of any "homeless" Aills children that Walker could have taken in and raised? Do we still have any "stray" Aills in MS and LA that we can't place in a family? Help me think about this. Marlene
Sandra, you said in message posted to the List on September 4, 2005 in response to Jinny: Jinny, It is not an absolute, but especially since Marlene found the information in LA and MS, I believe James Wesley Aills was a brother of Zaccheus, Walker, William and George Whitfield Aills and therefore a son of William and Molly. My ggggrandmother was Mathilda Carr, the daughter of Cornelius Carr and a man who did business with Zaccheus Aills. George W(hitfield) was a witness to the marriage between James Wesley Aills and Mathilda Carr. If you feel comfortable enough, you can place him as a son of William Aills and Molly Shackleford along with Zaccheus Aills. We know Walker Aills who moved to Union Co., AR and William and George W. who moved to Johnson Co., AR were the sons of William and Molly. Circumstances lead me to believe they were brother of Zaccheus and James Wesley. sandraR --------------------------------- There does seem to be quite a bit of "circumstantial" information to suggest that Zaccheus and Walker may have been brothers to each other and also brothers to William and George W. and sons of William and Molly. Besides their residence in East Feliciana Parish (per 1830 census records) and their business associations (per deeds Marlene obtained) in East Feliciana Parish, Walker and Zaccheus each named a son William (their oldest son, I think) and also they each named a son George, but it doesn't seem like there is very much circumstantial information suggesting James Wesley is a brother of Zaccheus and/or Walker. Although they had other sons, Walker and Zaccheus didn't name a son James; and James Wesley didn't name a son William or George. This is just my opinion, but I do believe ALL the Aills who were in Louisiana and Mississippi by 1825, plus or minus, were related, but I don't think that necessarily means they were all siblings, in fact, just my opinion, but I doubt it. In addition to some of the Aills males that are mentioned more often, we have Joel Aills, who was evidently in the area by 1813, John Aills in Amite County, MS by 1816 per Amite census (perhaps this was John Ferby Ailes), a James Ailes that is on 1818 State census of Adams County. These were grown men, obviously older than Walker and Zaccheus....and Joel for sure had several sons born before 1810, per Jefferson County, KY census and at least one son was still alive in 1817, which could have been James Wesley. Since the name James and John are amongst these other early Aills in the MS records, seems like it has to be considered that James Wesley could be a son of one of them....especially since he did name sons James and John. You told Jinny that if she is "comfortable enough" she can put both Zaccheus and James Wesley as sons of William Aills and Molly Shackleford. Does that mean you are comfortable enough to do that? I doubt you would suggest that idea to someone else if you weren't already comfortable with it yourself. Since there is not a record of James Wesley buying land in Union County, AR or any where else either next to or at the same time as Walker or Zaccheus, it rules out some of the circumstantial evidence you previously posted suggesting they were brothers. Do you have other circumstantial data that places James Wesley Aills as a son of William Aills and Molly Shackleford? I am still working on updating my James Wesley Aills file, and, like you, would like to have as much documentation as possible so that it will be accurate. Tarney

Sandra, I want to update my file on James Wesley Aills and was going to enter some information I printed out a while back. On May 29, 2005, under the subject "talking to LA genealogist about Zaccheus- FYI" you posted a message to the list saying, in part: "My James Wesley Aills who went to Texas was also in EFP and Mississippi at the same time and also bought land on the same date beside Zaccheus and William in Union Co. AR. James Wesley moved on to Texas." Can you please give me both the date and location or property description of the land James Wesley bought in Union County, Arkansas. Did Zaccheus, William and James Wesley buy land near Walker? Tarney

James McCorkle was married to Sarah Ann Ales who was born in Lewis County and died in Cabel Co., WV in 1899. I believe she lived on property next to Christopher C. Ailes in Cabel Co. and we've searched for information that would prove she is CC Ailes' sister. There is a possibility that the parents are known but it has not been proven. Billy I really hate to ask this of you, but I have (hidden ) I say that because I can't find that info you sent me on how to connect your family to ours. Would you please send it to me again? I surely will appreciate it. How goes things with you? Same O same O here at the Peters household. Thanks, Jinny I I am the one that requested info on Lee Jackson McCorkle. I recieved some from others, but not how to connect with the Aills Family. Do you have any kind of info on that? If you have I would appreciate it if you would send it to me. Thanks again. lol As I think on it, is Lee Jackson McCorkle connected to us? I just took it for granted that he was, but didn't check it out. Hi Karen, thanks so much for the info. However, I am still in a quandry as to who the parents of Sarah Aills is, do you know who they are? I don't know where to look for Sarah so I can put Lee Jackson McCorkle in exactly the right place he should be in my files. Also, who is the ancestor you mentioned in your mail? Are they from the Aills branch? If so I would like to have some info on them for my files, also. Thank you Karen, Hope we can get me straightend out on this. I obtained his Obit from Sandras' file cabinet, but I don't know where to put it. He was 65 when he died. Jinny > > Pam if you see this do you know who and where Lee J. It is funny that in every census his last name is spelled differently. Ailes/Ayles/Aills It is evidently the same person dates match on all 3. > Liz > > > ============================== > Search the US Census Collection. No, parents for Sarah Aills McCorkle elude me...Do documentation whatsoever. My ancestor was James M McCorkle, son of James and Sarah Aills McCorkle. Their family registry gave their marriage 1838 by Reverend Sheldon...Cannot learn more... My James McCorkle moved to Grayson County, TX, then to Cook County, TX and is buried there...He married Mary LaGrand in Huntington, Cabel County, WV...They had several children, but most of them died very young...My grandfather Virgil McCorkle and a brother George McCorkle married and had families.. James McCorkle, father of James and Lee Jackson McCorkle was born in Lawrence County, OH and was the son of John and Mary Holly McCorkle...
