    1. Just some tidbits on Thomas son of William
    2. Hello, Elaine and I have been working till the wee hours of the morning digging for information and we've come up with some you might be interested in. If y'all want to dig for more information please let me know if you find something. I believe it's in working together and sharing information, that we're going to solve the mysteries all of us face. I think we've pretty well determined that all AILLS from LA, MS and TX all go back to the Kentucky Aills so if you're searching for records and information related to Kentucky you're searching for family. Anyway, here goes what we've found on Thomas Aills (son of William) and Ann Dyal. Ann was the d/o John A Dyal/Doyle and Christina Davis. They had 8 children, including Rebecca who married William E. Reed and Edward T. Doyle. Elaine had a note that Thomas and Nancy Ann Doyle were the parents of 4 children: Arrine (Alea) dob?, Nicholas Edward b 1836; Ruhannah b 1830 and an unknown son. She found this information by looking on Doyle sites. In the 1850 census of Brown, Hendricks, IN, Nicholas Ayles is living with Edward T. Doyle the brother of Ann Dyal. In the 1880 census of Boone, Jackson, IN, Nicholus Ailes is living with wife, Mary F and children, Thomas 17m, Donz Lou 13f, Samuel 11m and Roy 3m. In the 1900 census of Boone, Jackson, IN, Nickalas Ailes b 1836 is living with his wife Ananette? of 40 years and a 19 year old daughter. I can't read her name but it may be April. The wife is 59, Nickalas is 64. Both were born in Kentucky. I have not searched for any records of the children of Nicholas Ayles/Ailes. In the 1850 census of Lewis Co., the little 11 year old Ruhanna Aills is living in the home of Rebecca Reed, Ann Dyal's sister. Evidently Thomas and Ann Dyal Aills were dead by 1850 and their children were split up to live with Ann's siblings. If anyone searches for more information and finds any, please share it with me. We can make it a 'treasure hunt' if you have the time and inclination. Thanks, Sandra

    1. Thomas P. Aills b Louisiana - Ashley AR
    2. Has anyone found the parents of Thomas P. Ails who was the music professor in Florida in the 1860 census? What about James S.W. Ailes? Am I remembering correctly that months ago there was information found where William Aills owed money for music books or was owed money for music lessons from a school in Louisiana? I remember something about music and money. I wonder if Thomas P. Ails could have been the son of William Aills who moved to Johnson Co., AR? I know Willliam and Sarah Hall married July 10, 1828 in E. Feliciana Parish, LA., and Thomas P. Ails is said to be born in Louisiana in 1827. Stranger things have happened with census records. Sarah is listed with children on census records and there is indication that there were minor children in the Johnson Co., AR records, but the names of the children are not known. If anyone has information on Thomas P. Ails, please let me know. I think Liz has done a lot of work on this Thomas P. Thanks, Sandra

    1. Re: [AILLS] James Wesley Aills decendants
    2. Jinny, It is not an absolute, but especially since Marlene found the information in LA and MS, I believe James Wesley Aills was a brother of Zaccheus, Walker, William and George Whitfield Aills and therefore a son of William and Molly. My ggggrandmother was Mathilda Carr, the daughter of Cornelius Carr and a man who did business with Zaccheus Aills. George W(hitfield) was a witness to the marriage between James Wesley Aills and Mathilda Carr. If you feel comfortable enough, you can place him as a son of William Aills and Molly Shackleford along with Zaccheus Aills. We know Walker Aills who moved to Union Co., AR and William and George W. who moved to Johnson Co., AR were the sons of William and Molly. Circumstances lead me to believe they were brother of Zaccheus and James Wesley. sandra

    3. I finally found my records tonight. This is from VA. January 28th, 1808. John Ales and Elizabeth Brown. These were married by me. S. B. Wilson. That is all the note has from the court house. This is from Adams Co. Ails to Colvin, recorded December 10th, 1808. State of Ohio, Adams County. I do hereby certify that on the 24th___________ I, JW Riepel one of the justices of the peace in and for the county aforesaid did join together as man and wife John Ails and Mary Colvin ______ under my hand this 28th Nov., 1808. Signed JW Rupel, JP This is from Adams Co. Ails to Vires, recorded 12th day of August 1806. June the 19th, 1806 I do hereby certify that I John Riepel one of the justices of the peace in and for the county of Adams and township of Jefferson did join together as man and wife John Ailes and Reecca Vires on the above date (meaning 6-19-1806) sign Jn Riepel Then I have copies of Marriage Records of Adams County Ohio 1797-1894 by Adams County Genealogical Society. Marriage book #1 has John Ailes and Rebecca Virs married 6-19-1806 by Jno Russell (page 25) Then on Page 66 John Ails and Mary Colvin married 11-24-1808 by Jno Russell, J.P. Then on Page 82 there is another Ails listing: John Bradford married Liney Ails 6-23-1824 by Joseph McClain. I have no Liney Ails in my records but thought someone might want this info. With no ages for John Ailes it is extremely difficult to be certain that it is our John but I am beginning to believe it might very well be. All for tonight. Hope this helps. Roberta

I wish there was more information on Mary Miller available. I don't know IF she was the sister of William Jr. and George Whitefield. According to census information she was born in 1821 so that makes me believe she was not their sister, or at least not the daughter of Willliam Sr and Mary who was named in the lawsuit in 1822. That information that Mr. McDaniel sent shows a George Whitfield as an heir of William in the records of Johnson Co. AR. Other children are referenced in those records too, so that makes me wonder if William had a son named George Whitfield along with the Elizabeth and Mary named as children. Or was the George Whitfield named as an heir in the Johnson Co records, the same George Whitefield we know was a son of William and Mary. As far as I know, if someone dies intestate and has children, their siblings are not named as heirs. That makes me think George Whitfield was a son and not a brother of William. At the time of William's death he was married to Sarah so he had a wife and the estate would have gone to she and the children if he died intestate. In that case, George Whitfield would have been a son and not a brother. I can't stop wondering if the William who moved to Johnson Co. AR was the father of George Whitefield Aills and the rest of those men who ended up in LA and MS, William being the same person who was married to Molly Shackleford and also married to Sarah Hall. Some of those old men married and had kids after they were 60+ years old so that's not an unlikely possibility. I haven't been able to locate an Allen Lewis with a wife named Sarah to see if Sarah had children with her when she married after William's death in Johnson Co. What if William Sr packed up all the unmarried children and moved to E.Feliciana Parish after Molly died and he was the person who married Sarah Hall and he was the father of Walker, Zaccheus, George W and James Wesley? We've come such a long ways in finding out so many answers since we came together as a group that I have faith that we'll find more answers to more questions. Sometimes it's just knowing the question before we can find the answer. Thanks for responding to my missive, Liz. Sometimes I wonder if anyone even reads what I write. Maybe I just don't make sense when I'm writing even though I know what I mean.lol Sandra PS. Pam, can you work your magic and find an Allen Lewis with wife Sarah in and around Johnson Co. AR? Maybe by finding Sarah Hall Aills Lewis we can learn more about William. sz ============================== View and search Historical Newspapers. On the numbers, Thomas and Amanda are the 3 (third generation) James Gulley and Rebecca Ann Aills (the 4 generation) were the parents of Charles H Gulley m Cassie A Jones (the 5 generation). Their children are listed below them as the 6 generation. Do you have different information? Did you increase the size of the print so you could see it better? After reading Roberta's email concerning the children of John Aills, I noticed she did not list Thomas Aills as a child of John. 1. John's wives
    2. Roberta Cook
    3. A couple of days ago Sandra inquired about John's wives but have been unable to get to answer until now. In my records, I only list John as being with Christine Pendleton. I have as their children: Mary, Minerva, George, Matilda (all Pendletons) but Harriett Amanda Aills Springer and James Aills (my great grandfather) were from this relationship/marriage. As most of us believe, John & Christine were never married. I have also John & unknown wife with the following children: Fanny, Levi, Lewis, and Elias. I chose not to list a wife as there was some confusion about Elizabeth from VA, Rebecca Voiers, and Mary Colvin. There was no documentation in Pike Co., OH on the marriages to Rebecca or Mary with the exception that there was a note that John had married Rebecca and Mary but no ages, nothing for confirmation. I personally could not imagine John going back to VA to marry between all these marriages. With this new connection that Sandra has it makes sense that John married Rebecca and Mary but probably not Elizabeth from VA. Hope all this makes sense. Does this lady know for sure from the Stalcup history that this is our John that married Rebecca? I agree with Sandra that the children Fanny, etc. would have to be John & Mary's children. Food for thought. Roberta

    1. Need some help on Matthew Ails? Who is he?
    2. Here's an email I just received. I don't have a Matthew Ails. Does anyone else have Matthew? The John Stallcup d 1799 was the first husband of our Rebecca Stallcup married to Walker. Rebecca's husband, John was a surveyor in Mason Co. Can you let me know if you can answer the following questions? Thanks bunches, Sandra Sandra Would you check your records and if you have a Matthew Ails listed? If not, can you check with your researchers. Maybe it is a Court typo error or maybe not, do you know if anyone has ever applied for these Court entries on the Ails/Aills. Of course I got the Rebecca "Ailts" (LOL) (it was to do with the estate of John Stallcup d1799). And John Stallcup d1799 had about 10 entries I got all them them. Most were to do with Court orders on his surveying. He was a surveyor for Mason County and also a tax collector for the district. 1. A correction, clarification and addition to John Aills wives.
    2. I made a mistake this morning when I said John Aills and Elias Stallcup were half-brothers. They were step-brothers. Elias Stallcup was the son of Rebecca Stallcup, married to John Stallcup. He married Sarah Voiers. John Aills was the son of Walker Aills and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Shackleford. He married Sarah's sister, Rebecca Voiers. Rebecca Stallcup and Walker Aills married so there children were step-siblings, not half-siblings. Liz found a marriage record in Mason Co., KY for Elias Stalcup and Sarah Voiers dated April 28, 1806. Sandra

    1. Letter that Eva Aills Voiers wrote to M/M W.F.Dials
    2. This is a copy of the letter that I've been referring to that Eva Aills Voiers wrote. I thought it was on MyFamily but I didn't find it there. I had this in my 'notes' Roberta sent the handwritten letter and I transcribed it. _________ In my notes: I typed the letter from Eva Aills Voiers wife of Marshall Voiers to Mr & Mrs. W. F. Dials in Calif. The post mark is June 8, 1938. Roberta sent copies of this letter as it was hand written by Eva. Sunday afternoon, June 5 Dear Old Pals:- Marshall has gone down the creek to church & I am alone. I would go up the creek if I thought I could stand the trip. I haven't any way to go only walk. Our buggy has been worn out long ago and our horses are to old and crippled up.to drive or ride & we haven't enough to buy a car so it is either walk or stay home but I think I will try walking some Sunday pretty soon when it isn't raining. We sure have pg2 been having plenty of rain & even some hail. I never saw it hail as hard as it did last Sat. May 28. I picked up enough & kept it 3 hours to make ice tea for supper. It tore two or three of our tobacco beds up. We had taken the canvases off of them but we had one bed up by the old wood house with good canvases on it, & we got some plants out of it. It tore the tops out of our tomatoes and tore the cabbage full of holes but I think some of the cabbage will grow out & our sugar corn was just torn pg 3 in shreds. Haven't but one field of big corn planted & doubt if it comes up the ground is packed so hard and crusted. Things look pretty blue to us sometimes we don't make ends meet now. One cream check a week don't go far when you divide it. Buck gets discouraged too & thinks he can do better somewhere else. He isn't taking the interest in things he did last year. We think he had a good pg 4 show. We have the taxes to pay & the place to keep up & give him half of everything. He hasn't made as much off the cows this year. Cream has been cheap but he gets half of the cows. Everyone here thinks he has a good show but of course there's lots of work to do here to much work for him, I think but Marshall helps a lot more now but he shouldn't for when he works hard he is so nervous and can't sleep at night but pg 5 you know how he is sees so much to do just thinks he has to work. I help Buck too. In tobacco and hay. Marshall still takes medicine. If he only would listen and wouldn't try to work this year he might get some stronger but he is so irritable & cross with me. How we both wished when Marshall first got sick you folks were here & we still wish it. We have house enough for all page 6 and work enough too. If you could come this Fall it would be perfectly all right to come & stay with us. Our house seems so big and empty now. Once Doll left the same evening of the Funeral. Poor old Dad Voiers lingered so long he got so he didn't even know us or try to talk to us for 2 weeks but the end was quiet and peaceful. I never saw anyone pass away so easy. Marshall & Doll & I was standing by him when he left. page 7 he was so tired and weary of life he would often say won't I ever go. He was down in bed flat on his back for that was the only way he could lie for 9 months just lacking 6 days. We had the funeral here at the house. Such a large funeral our house was full. I think there was over 20 machines besides the hearse went out of the holler Several came over to the road. A rain came up just as we was leaving pg 8 the house which made it bad getting out of it. Had also rained on Sat night before Markie, Louise & Forest came & they had a wreck just 7 miles out of Vanceburg when they started to go around a curve there car turned over I guess 2 or 3 times tore their car up pretty bad and hurt Markies shoulder sprained it I think and broke Louise's glasses & cut her nose some but more of a scare & shake up than anything else could have been worse pg 9 He (Dad V) has been gone 3 weeks and we still miss him so much I still listen for his moans. I can hardly stay in the house long enough to clean it up. Seems so quiet and lonesome. Seems so odd for us to live alone. I guess we will have to take a boy to raise (or one to keep us) Some man wanted to give Marshall a baby a week or so ago. His wife had died and left this baby but I pg 10 am afraid it would be too much of an undertaking for me now to try to raise a child, have you got Ralph's baby now? Sallie's youngest boy & another boy from Ind. was here a few days week before last. He graduated this Spring & is trying to find work. Sallie is so afraid he will go to Calif too. She is still working for people & is making the living for herself & the 3 that is at home. Clifford has been gone to Calif for over a year. He is page 11 at Ventura when he isn't with the children Jane is keeping house he stays with her some but he don't help Sallie any. The children send her some money occasionally but they do well to keep themselves. Mother has been dead 28 years the 4th of June and Daddie 7 the 10th of March don't time slip away fast. Are you getting grey headed? Have you still got your hair bobbed? Have you pulled all of Floyd's page 12 hair out? My how I wish I could look out and see you all driving in. Tell Charlie hello & I hope he is feeling better since the weather has got warm. We haven't had much hot weather yet. I am trying a few chickens. Did have 50 but I have lost a few. I guess my ducks got tired staying here and left. I have lost 11 but I expect they went in someone's roasting pan. Must now close. Write us real soon. Alice D is all OK & Alice A also. Much love Marshall and Eva
